a/c has stopped working, compressor spinning/and centre nut, recent a/c service.

Featured Replies

Hello, noticed today that my a/c has stopped. I serviced the system myself about a month ago (i work for Renault) had gas in there at the time so i gave it a full cycle on the a/c machine. I took a look under the bonnet and the compressor is spinning as is the center nut. Are these common for pressure switches to fail as i know working for Renault ive changed loads.

Help would be great!

Tis the season for buggered aircon, tra la la la la la laaaaa.

Pressure switch or compressor is bust.

Ok daft question

Where do you look to see if the compressor is spinning and the centre nut is turning?

In the Engine bay I know but where............

Thanks

The clutch wouldn't engage if the pressure switch was faulty. If you hook it up to the a/c station or a manifold gauge set, what are the pressures?

Stop looking :)

It doesn't apply to your car as it uses a variable stoke compressor that runs all the time. There is no a/c magnetic clutch.

Just realised were in the Octavia Mk2 section. OOPS

Your car as it uses a variable stoke compressor that runs all the time. There is no a/c magnetic clutch, so the centre nut is not significant. Try scanning for faults. The above advice is still good.

Arrrrrrr..............Thanks, I thought as much but was just checking

So would the clutch on mine stop if it had no a/c gas in the system? as its the type which runs all the time. I tried my vag com earlier but it wasn't having any of it. :(

Also i know on Renault's i can bridge the pressure sensor connector to determine if the switch is faulty with a paper clip as its a 2 pin plug, but the skoda is a 3 pin.

You should see the pulley spin all the time. There is no clutch so it has to spin.

Had to change the pressure switch on mine lately, it a cheaper option to try before (£34 from Poland, Hella make) changing the compressor.

The compressor runs all the time and only works hard when required but will not work if no pressure

How did you determine it was the pressure switch at fault? Also noticed my fans arent spinning when i switch the a/c on, but thats because its not working? The fans run when the engine gets hot however.

You have a problem with the high pressure sensor - see http://wiki.ross-tec...index.php/00819

Hi alibailey88

My condenser was leaking and when I changed it I changed the pressure switch also. The system worked for a while then stopped . Got it scanned and the pressure switch was reading refrigerant pressure too low. Changed it for the original and the scan said pressure switch faulty. Sent to Poland for one as skoda was wanting @ £60 + for one. Replaced it and alls well.

With the first switch the fans ran all the time as soon as the engine warmed up a little, With the new switch they only run after using the a/c for a while. They never came on originally.

Bad times, i have the pressure sensor fault as i have lost all my gas! Did a naughty and pressed the a/c valve on the high pressure pipe and only a tiny hiss came out.

Where are the common places that are prone for leaking, im thinking condensor.

I seem to remember someone saying that pressure sensor can be the source of the leak.

I will investigate on the weekend. Just read my print off from when i serviced the system last month and i added dye. Out comes the uv light and goggles for me. ffs.

Well I hope the guy who has re-gassed my system 3 times has finally fixed it this time !

Apparently my compressor is ok and the leak was coming from the actual inlet valve where you re-gas it, I think he said the valve was sticking ?

Anyway if it leaks again, its going to have a new pipe and they are £110...

Lets hope its fixed !
