Camshaft Replacement

Featured Replies

I purchased the car in October 2012 with the chocolate camshaft problem, came in quite handy for knocking some money off though I knew it wouldn't be a five minute job to fix. If I had to do another one I'd definitely get a professional to do it for the amount of work involved but £250 is better than the £450 I was quoted.

The cam belt has to come off to obviously get the camshaft out, and the vacuum pump the other end has to be removed as well. There's a lot to take off but it's worth it not to hear that tapping noise at idle! The kit came with shell bearings and the uprated hardened hydraulic tappets due to excessive wear and now it's running a lot smoother & quieter.

The only thing left to do is set the timing up properly on VCDS then the jobs a gooden'.

Another job off the list and next is the clutch!

On an unrelated note, that night some douche decided to drive into me at Tescos and not stop which was real nice of them, any compounds recommended to get this out as I don't think T-cut will take this one. I know a good paint guy though so a repaint of the bumper looks likely.
