MAF Mass AIr Flow Sensor Meter Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wanted to say, my Skoda Fabia Mk1 TDi estate was performing really badly. I was coming home from Norfolk and it just decided to stop accelerating, struggled to get up to speed especially up hills etc.

I cleaned the EGR valve, but it seemed pretty good, replaced the Air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor. I even did an oil change, but none of this seemed to work.

I then did the sensible thing of disconnecting the MAF sensor and bingo, instant increase in performance.

I bought a new MAF from an ebay seller, fitted in a few minutes and the car's back to it's old self.

I bought it from Taiwan from these guys http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mass-Air-Flow-Sensor-Meter-for-Skoda-VW-1-9L-TDI-DIESEL-0280217121-0280-217-121-/160884604532?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2575783e74

Simple process to change it, disconnect the original from the cable. Unclip the air hose from one side by loosening the spring clip/hoseclamp. Unscrew the housing from the Air box, two screws, mine had star shaped security screws fitted. Pull the old unit away, replace and reverse the earlier steps.

I got my item with a couple of days and at less than half the price of a UK supplier.

Not looking to burst your bubble here but you'll be in the same boat in no time with that.

When that one pops get a genuine one they last a lot longer.

Well, I'll keep an eye on it and try to update this when/if it fails.

or you could use the old one for a diode delete mod

Was on my way to Bradford on Wednesday and suffered a loss of power. Couldn't get revs above 2500 and died off uphill.

I disconnected the MAF, but this time it made no difference.

Is this the MAF failing again, or something else? Maybe someone can link me to a diode Delete Mod to try anyway.

I'll try and get my aftermarket Vag Com lead working so I can see if there's any fault codes, then clean out the EGR valve, although last time this didn;t look too bad.
