Hi, and First time posting.

 

 A couple of weeks ago i bought a Octavia mk1 2002. 1.9 TDi 90hp Auto, and a  FSH All seemed fine. I used to drive a 1.1 picanto, and before that a 1.6mk1 focus. 

 

   ~This car feels slow. The indicated mpg always hovers around the 30mpg mark on the reading going to work and back. 40 ish on motorways if i drive carefully. Overall the actual mileage i get is less than the focus it seems. All  seems a bit off to me? also when trying to build up speed to about 60+ it just doesn't seem to want to go? 

      There is no smoke out the back. even in the Morning it seems OK. I've disconnected the MAF and drove and it seems the same, if not a tiny bit more responsive. ~I noticed the MPG reading was updating faster?   I noticed the MAF connection has five pin holes but only 4 are connected. the MAF itself has five. 

      Any ideas as to a quick diagnosis? I dont have diagnostic software 

Sounds like the MAF is faulty. 
 

However before spending out money on parts that maybe OK contact someone on the VCDS owners map and get it scanned it could save you a fortune

yeah i will probably do that. or get vcds myself. by the way. ive heard that some obd scanners dont work on vag cars properly?  was thinking of getting a bluetooth one for my phone? if it does work will it display the correct fault codes.  

Some are hit and miss, others will read some codes and not others.

 

VCDS is dealer level stuff and a member who has it will usually do a scan for ‘a drink’.
