TomTom 5 Postcode search.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to get this to work properly as it seems the same as the last one (i.e rubbish), yet is claimed to be full search.. you cannot use the www.digitools.co.uk one and there will not be an update as the person in charge of that site has been ordered to remove it by Ordinance survey.

I think its a bug in the program, I read somewhere that creating a folder on your ppc called \tomtom makes it work. The folder doesnt need to contain any files.

Create a directory on your sd card (or whichever card the map is on) called tomtom. There doesn't have to be anything in it, just as long as the directory exists. Then, as if by magic...

Dave, whats this voice you have?

The one Rish was in love with?

will create folder as I too was a bit miffed at postal code searching...especially in very large postal areas.

just looked and it downloads onto the pda as a zip file. inside it there is UK & NL postcode filea and a setup file. Its a bit stupid and they could have put it in the instructions first. Also you will have to take the file off to run the setup.

Tlaking of voices, I want to download the London Cabbie. The only problem with that is will it let you go south of the river?

Thanks for that, It only works!!!!. What a palava that is.

I have just upgraded my TT3 to TT5 with Postcode search and it's a lot better.

On the Palm version of TT5, it installed the postcode files into a directory but wouldn't do the search... moving the postcode file to a new folder called "zip" on the SD card got it working for some reason...

If I order the upgrade to v5 (I already have v3) can I instantly start using it, ie do they allow you to download the version 5 software and supply a code? Or do you have to wait for a pack to arrange in the post from them?

Reason I ask is that I'm away this weekend and would quite like to try out the new version, as v3's completely packed up on me and I was going to upgrade anyway :)

Steve

I've found with my cheap and quite possibly nasty ViaMichelin setup, that sometimes you have to drop the last two letters from the postcode and enter the street name instead.

With the old software I had before, there wasn't a postcode search, but you could search for places like country parks and rivers, which was quite handy...

You have to wait for a package, but it won't be here by the weekend anyway.

On TT5 you have to "search for postcode" instead of "search for address" otherwise it won't work either...

Cheers for the help. I found the option a couple of days ago. Very odd to not let you do it in the address part. Oh well, atleast I have it working now

Doesn't work for me for some reason. When I goto 'Navigate to... Postcode' whatever I type in, TT5 finds nothing. Can someone send me the UK postcode file from their installation, so I can double check?

Cheers

Steve

Suppose I better install TT5 now I've had it for over 2 weeks now :D gets a little disconcerting when I drive down my road and Tom Tom tells me I am in a field

The new version seems to be missing relatively new (more than 2 years old now) roads near me, so I wouldn't hold your breath, Ivan... :)

Oh goodie goodie and I suppose the roundabout it tells me there even though it isn't hasn't been fixed

Well here's hoping
