I'll be installing those then!. Great effect in the cabin when driving in darkness.

Anyone know where to connect into the headlights circuit inside an Octy II to bring these babies on?

Wow! Fantastic. I've been wondering what my next project will be (after sorting the alternator hum out of my yoke), and now I have an idea....

Congrats for thinking to take pics when installing and the tutorial!

Can you take a pic of the finished article in place in daylight? (It'll give us an idea of how and what style of clips used etc to mount the lights )

Hmmm - those little lights that you had there Rich - wonder if I can get some in black? R32 maybe?

Then I'll buy 12 of them - 2 for each footwell and 1 for each grab handle... Wonder how easily you can remove the headlining?

Would be a good time to do the "ambience" lighting mod a la Josh and get some Dynamat on the flimsy roof...

Any idea how it comes off? :rubchin:

Would have to speak to VW about the little lights in black... i never done that mod in the end, lights are still in their rightfull place in the octy.

I'll get some piccys in daylight ASAP of the footwell lights... but what bulbs and connectors you use is really down to what you can get hold of... i was just using what i could find in the box of bits in the garage.

So does my Fabia

Wonder why the OctyII doesn't have them. It seems to hav just everything else

I installed them in my Fabia... They're not standard.

IIRC, the first VAG car to have the red downlights was the Passat W8... Now a number of models sport them.

Hi, I have got a set of 4 interior LED lights (freebie with Redline mag this month). I bought it mainly for the lights (I'm not interested in turning my Fabia into a neon lit, dayglo street racer). I want to do the same thing as Fabia 12v.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about, the wire is about 70cm long (quick phone camera picture, sorry for the blurriness!)

These things are labelled as 12v blue LED's, If I do this, are 4 of these going to be enough to light the footwells, or should I buy another magazine?!! :P

Nice find, pleased to see more people doing my pikey mod... wheres the commission?!! :D

Funnily enough, I got the magazine for the same reason, and was wondering the same! Shame that it didnt come with white LEDs! :(

Let me know how you get on would you, I have 3 copies of the mag and ltos of plans for extra lighting ;)

Well continuing on from an earlier thread.... i've fitted the footwell lights i was on about... heres how:

Marvelous guide Richard! I know what mod I'm doing next, it looks well smart.:cool::D

Josh, the way I am reading this, your red LED's are not direct replacements for the reading light 5w bulbs? I have replaced these 5w bulbs with high power red LED's so a passenger can map read etc without it blinding the driver!Work really well...... quite interested though in something that comes on when the headlights are switched on :) did you do a ''How to'' for this at all? ta

As for footwell lights, I installed to 12" high power Red LED tape strips in the footwells.... real nice affect. I used a different power source. The power cable that feeds the red light at the bottom of the front doors can be found behind the glove compartment! This feed comes on when the alarm is switched off or the key is taken out of the ignition etc.

Just pop out the bulb behind the red plastic so you can see the coloring of the cables and then look for these cables amongst the wires behind the glove box (this must be removed first). This makes for a neat finish as there are no cables to hide behind facia as they cannot be seen when the glove box is replaced :D
