I've got a Road Angel2, Very Good it is too, Have to turn off Tiff's annoying voice though!!!!

Origin b2 very good as well

I second the road angel2 fgan club saved me on a few occasions and can be found on hte net for around 350

i have got the snooper with remote radar detector, very good. I went for this model because of disply and being able to fit in a tidy manner, although this was 12months ago.

Just been looking at the Road Angel Vs the Snooper Evolution R. The Angel gets very good reviews, but some point out that the warnings come a little late in urban areas.

The Evolution R is too new to have any reviews, but it includes radar detection which the Angel doesn't.

not many forces use radar anymore....it's all about the laser!!!!

I got mine for

Are you specifically after a "radar" or "laser" detector?

All of the GPS ones are based on databases which alert you when you get near to a known gatso / common mobile speed trap. You update the database on the device via the internet. Most of them are subscription based. You pay a fee for a yearly subscription.

Since I use tomtom on my pds for satnav, I just use checkpoint software which is free and updated by the general public. Works fine, but admittedly, you need to have a pda which can involve more wires.

As beeftech says, radar isn't used that much nowadays. Laser is more commonplace and the general concensus is that with the precision and narrow path laser uses, by the time a laser detecting device picks it up, your car has already been measured for speed. Therefore not much use unless you verge on the side of illegality ;)

Could just stick to speed limits .... how quaint :D:D

I'm after anything that works TBH. Oh, bugger it I might as well chop the vRS in for an octy 1.6 Comfort. Or even worse, a Fabia!!! :( :( :(

Maybe you can do a search for garage door openers. They've been known to sometimes interfere with other laser emmitting devices ;)

Please, whatever you do, don't get a Fabia. They're just too damn slow :(

Hadaway man, Xav, man! Seriuosly though, This government is totally p*ssing me off with it's anti motorist stance. I really feel like buying a 1.1 fiesta popular plus and hoying all the rest of my cash at a decent track car to throw around on me days off.

You can't bloody move for speed cameras now. :finger::finger::finger:

I've also heard that those garage door opening devices 'could' interfere with certain unwelcome Laser transmissions. :D:rofl: They are also quite small and descrete.

Yep but you'd better have a garage door to open with it, as if you get caught with one that's what you may have to provide the evidence for in court ;)

I'd get the Fabia it's slow and costs less than a radar detector, or keep the Octy and just learn to drive at legal speeds. Or you could get your tuner to fit a limiter since you can't be bothered to slow down.

I had hear that they had modded the camera SW to take a picture of any car that causes an error reading. They then 'tag' it at DVLA, too many tags and you get a home call :finger:

i Checked oout the woolworth speed detector, it is a gps type, and ou can either pay

I have an origin B2, brilliant peice of kit, and much more descreet than the road angel, detects laser too... would reccommend!

note: they WILL be legal under the new laws comming through too...

Road Angel 2 has laser detection, and is very worthwhile

imho - also an official Skoda accessory so your dealer will hard-wire for you with no hassle :)

I am happy without a laser/camera detector. GPS is an option but these specific bits of kit will no doubt lull me into a false sense of security.

Stick to speed limits 90% of the time and you'll be fine... Also I dont do the mileage to warrant it...

PS: Don't forget' date=' if the government have their way, radar and laser detectors will be [i']verboten[/i].

Dont see how they can to be honest. Cameras are there for our "SAFETY" which means we should know where they are, so we can be prepared for the dangerous part of road they are on. A detector allows you to know there is a camera, so you never miss one and therefore should be mandatory if the government want people to drive "safe"

That would be true, if every camera were sited at an accident blackspot. But they're not always - sometimes they're in places where people are likely to speed inadvertently but in no way dangerously (a long, straight section of motorway for example), in which case they're just fine-issuing machines.

If the government had nothing to hide about the siting and use of speed cameras, then there wouldn't have been the stuff in the Road Safety Bill saying that they going to ban radar and laser detectors. I gather from previous posts on here that these plans may have been dropped, but if it's true it's just a typical Poo Labour response to being found out, IMO... :thumbdwn:

You've got confused here - "ap0gee" is correct in what he's saying - radar and laser detectors are to be made illegal. However GPS Speed Camera advisors such as you're talking about are a totally different thing and WILL still be legal.

My RA2 laser detector has never gone off in over 10,000 miles - perhaps I just drive too carefully...
