vRS Stealth Factor?

Featured Replies

I was thinking when I got my Fabia vRS that it was sorta stealthy in that it's reasonably quick but not obvious like a CTR or a chavved up Corsa/Saxo. In the last week or so I seem to be attracting boy racer types who seem to have something to prove. It's really annoying as I'm not that interested in whatever they seem to want to prove. I didn't get any of this crap in a VW Bora...

Last night - in the middle lane of the M60 doing about 75, moved to outside lane to overtake some slower traffic including some young lads in a chavved up Corsa (huge valances, side skirts, big ends and dodgy tints) in middle lane doing about 65. He spots me go past immediately gets the red mist and sticks his foot to the floor maxing out his 1.2, catches up then starts tailgating me. I give him a face full of soot, then pull into the middle lane and let him go past...

Later on that night - traffic lights on an A-road. Couple of youngsters pull alongside in a messed with Fiesta RST playing "gangsta rap" and then starts playing with his dump valve. He sits there and waits for me to pull away - I granny it in first gear, stick in it 2nd then let the turbo rip, then straight into 4th at 40 - he's gone for a full bore start and clears off in a cloud of oil smoke doing some silly speeds.

Tonight - slip onto motorway come out of the 40 zone, foot down in 4th then into 60th at 75 to cruise, pull out and overtake a CTR doing 65 in the inside lane. The CTR driver drops about 3 gears pulls across three lanes behind me and goes screaming past in a fit of VTEC, pulls across me back into the inside lane then slows down to 65 again. Had my parents in the car who were going "What the hell is he playing at???".

It's the sort of behaviour that a mate of mine used to contantly get in a Kiwi Yellow Seat Ibiza Cupra with F2 bodykit. That was an obvious car but I wasn't expecting it from the Fabia vRS...

take the badges off. or rebadge it as a 1.4 comfort. or as a Lada. Or swap it for an Octy vRS, then you'll be able to waste the boy racing types! (only kidding, no need to race on public roads etc)

You can waste a lot of them anyway - and a lot of the time you don't even have to work that hard, with a standard Furby..

Either way - remove the vRS logo from the back of the car. Although the 'real' expert ****** types will still recognise it, it's less likely they will.

Definitely appears to be a problem having the logo on the boot though as since I debadged that particular one the problem has gone.

It definitely isnt much joy dealing with that type of overtaking, especially when you're just on a commute or driving along normally.

Hope it will help you :)

Not to sure whether de-badging helps.... my car IS a 1.2 with a 1.2 badge on rear.... but as i have the vRS alloys, spoiler etc.... group of idiots in a fiesta (bodykitted) tried to chase me around all the local roads, couldn't shake them off, and id only been driving a few days and goin over speed limit in town is a no no........ and i didnt intend to pull over and stop at risk of what they were going to do to me/car so headed in direction of police station... they ****ed off in end.

That scared the hell out of me :thumbdwn:

Thank god its never happened since.

Just ignore them, I tend to...

Ha, i had some chav in a p reg polo i think it was with a bad ass bass box in the boot revving his engine at me the other night at the lights, so naturally i revved back lights turn to green he shot off and i carried on tootling along at 30mph.

Sure Showed him

Sure Showed him

John Peel (RIP) used to say the best thing to do when being tailgated is to wind down window and...

politely wave them past - they just don't how to take it!

lol... that's it, just pottle along gently and let them carry on... they don't think they've beaten you either if you don't try ;) so you still get the victory :)

Had the same sort of thing on the A30 at th weekend. In the outside lane making my way home toyota starlet (?) turbo pulled out and for some reason tried to race me  it was a hot day and I was very smokey :D

It doesn't happen often but when it does the other car normally becomes very dangrous to get past, usually I let them go as it's not worth me dying over

Debadging works. I did it, and I had no problems after this, apart from the odd one, which I think you'd get in any car.

Strangely enough, I get less hassle in my Golf GTI, and that isn't debadged.

i got very little grief in my octy vRS, i still think most drivers didnt know what they were. i used to get plenty of folk asking me what it was and what engine was in it, they had no idea it was a quick car:D

Magic - maybe it's due to your 60 speed 'box

 1.4 comfort.....mine flys thank you! :) lol tho the bodykit and the rear bumper gives it a vRS look from the rear and end up haveing stupid corsa's and saxos giving it a go

but yes street raceing is bad!

I tend to just hold back and drive sensibly with the "chav" types. A smug "I know my car is faster than yours" smile is all thats needed!!

Its nice to play with other cars in a similar frame of mind too though. Coming home on the A1 playing with a Toledo 150 TDi, and were just side by side out of the roundabouts and pretty much level pegging, then tailing off to 80 or so for the next one. Big grins and thumbs up all round

Or girl racing types..........was going up the A9 on Sunday. Just me and SWMBO on board. Stereo cranked up, Climatronic on a nice cool 18C and the cruise set at 79mph :D

Passed a couple of dames in a black debaged Polo in the inside lane doing maybe 65mph. Two minutes later she was sitting a foot off my back bumper  So I pulled over and she steamed past. I carried on my merry way, still on cruise, and guess what? Five minutes later I passed her, back in the inside lane, doing 65  This time as soon as she saw me she put the foot down  Egged on from the passenger seat  so did I and of course left her for dead :D:D I slowed down to legalish speeds once she was a dot in the mirror. She then began to catch up.

Two miles down the road the Snooper beeped and I dropped down to 69. She roared past the Gatso at about the ton :rofl::rofl:

Defo the best way to deal with the kids is to not rise to the bait. As adi before, you've lost nothing if you havent tried.

Its far less stressful to tootle along at national limits rather than race some spotty teenager in his/her Mum's shopping car.

There can only be one result...

Cars in same league on known roads is a different matter... :)

i kinda enjoy the odd confrontation on the roads. just blow there doors off then in about ten mins they will come screamin past as if they have 600bhp under the bonnet and thinkin they have beeten you. find it quite amusing!

I had the same the other night. Slipped the furby quietly into reverse (empty road behind me) Lights turn green and slowly backed up  Yer man looks round and I'm nowhere to be seen !!:rofl::rofl:
