Keep Yeti or New Octavia ?

Featured Replies

Oh dear just when I thought it was safe to take my 3yr old yeti in for its 3rd service I waited in the showroom while they did my service, and I sat in and then ended up test driving the new Octavia.

They offered me £17000 for my 3 yr old yeti against an Octavia Elegance plus 3 yrs free service and cash back !

What a dilemma now, I love my yeti but the financials really shout at me to change, much cheaper to run, tax, monthly payments. Not as much fun but money does talk.

Anybody else had the same dilemma ???

Sighh

I took my 2.5 year old yeti in and they offered me 18500 so have ordered an L&K for £23 a month less than my current pcp!

DON'T do it Paul, you waiting SOOOOO long for your beloved Yeti and now you're casting it aside :'(

DON'T be tempted by the dark side!!!!!!

I am also considering changing my 170 Yeti for a new vRS when it is launched later in the year.

I had three vRS diesels prior to my Yeti so have long experience of the Octavia. However the Yeti has its advantages too ... the 4 wheel drive and the increased ride height among other things.

I have test driven an Octavia 150 TDi Elegance and it was a very pleasant car, so i would imagine the vRS will be awesome.

One consideration for me is the fact that the new Octavia is much lighter than before so we would would be faced with changing our caravan for a lighter one .... not a major issue as we like to change pretty often, but our choices would be more limited.

Will wait and see what the vRS and the facelifted Yeti looks like before making a final choice ... our next car will be yet another Skoda, remains to be seen which one.

Looks like the Yeti Boys are defecting.

We'll have to have a Bigger Octavia Section soon

And think positively, you'll be able to take up minicabbing!

Hmmm.....I only went in for a sodding service and came out with a dilemma

Its a real head or heart thing and have no idea which way to jump.

Jump into a new yeti, 170 0000000000  then think about it

If there was a facelifted yeti available then i probably would have but its probably a bit off yet unless peeps know better ?

Also the difference in costs were quite marked.

You change your cars more often than most of us change tyres :-)

With that kind of part exchange price I'd upgrade to a new Yeti myself.

No doubt the Octavia is a good car, but it'll quickly be very common, parked all over taxi-ranks and will not hold value like a Yeti either.

It's also going to be a bit, well... mundane looking really as it's just another corporate faced hatchback/estate.

Even if it's great under the skin I would quickly tire of the "fitting in" looks.

The VRS may be worth waiting for though.

I'd definitely go for another Yeti, and wait for the facelift if necessary. I would only downgrade if absolutely necessary

Nail on the head Richard... The new Octavia looks lovely and is a really cracking car, but no-one will even look twice at it. Even the new one is invisible to most people and as you say they will be two a penny in a year or two on every taxi rank you can imagine. No thanks. vRS or Octavia Scout Estate would be the only two to tempt me and even then most non car people will just see a taxi. The Yeti has its drawbacks (tiny boot) but on the whole, on a myriad of levels it is just vastly superior to an Octavia in my book.

Also remember scarceness means far better resale value come selling time. Spend £25,000 on an Octavia now and you will get FAR less for it in three years than you will get back from the £25,000 you can spend on a scarce Yeti. Don't just look at the financials now. Think about that taxi's value in three years time... THAT is the time you will be wishing you had rather bought a Yeti.

The Yeti will be changed on its second birthday ... the last few have been 18 months so I'm doing well! lol I am Stuart's pension plan!

To be honest I see so many yetis I'd hardly say they're uncommon. No one ever looks twice at yetis either. The taxi thing is valid though, I once got off with a ticket at Glasgow airport as the traffic warden shifted or booked plenty other cars but just told me to join the end of the rank. (this was shortly before some Muslim blokes flouted the smoking ban by lighting up a jeep cherokee in the doorway of the terminal)

Look at Qashqai, Sportage and iX35 sales and then look at Yeti sales again. Or look at Octavia or Golf sales vs the Yeti. You'll soon find the Yeti is a very, very scarce little beast. Hence the current good resale values.

You may not believe it but up where Domhnall and I live Yetis really are quite common. (I think there's now six within five minute's walk of my house.) Of course Qashqais are common as muck, but I reckon Yetis outnumber the new Sportage and ix35 fairly easily in these parts. Interesting, really, as you'd think that the Koreans' lengthy warranties would appeal to cash-conscious Lothianites (and no, that's not perpetuating a old myth about the Scots: it's genuinely true of Edinburghers, at least in comparison to Weegies).

On the subject of cash-consciousness, I did actually pass a Dacia Duster the other day. First one I've seen on the road in the UK.

I also saw two Dusters over the Bank Holiday one of which was pulling a huge caravan.

That depends on what you're prepared to do to it :)

I drove mine to a local meet last month, and a guy, who I didn't know from Adam, pulled up alongside at a set of lights, turned and put both thumbs up - I was well chuffed :)

Sigh.....still have a decision to make go for the excellent financial savings or keep a 3yr old car and wait for a facelift I may not be able to afford ?

Wish I could make a decision
