Not an owner yet, but....

Featured Replies

Hi everyone...

I'm a long term VW fanatic/owner.

I currently have a MK2 Golf GTI 16v in lovely original condition but very unfortunately it will soon be going. I have a young son and my wife is pregnant with our second,

So I have the task of finding a car that is both fun (for me) and practical (for the family).

The only obvious choice that I can see is an Octavia vRS estate. I have always coveted these cars and have always wanted to own one, what better excuse than a young family!

So I look forward to using this forum and drawing on your wealth of knowledge as I buy and own my first Skoda.

Thanks

DD

Welcome to Briskoda, DD. :) Are you considering the Mk I or Mk II version?

MK I for sure.... I love their understated modest looks, the way that they are not massive in size and I've heard some pretty good stories about the driving dynamics etc. I'm looking at a black one preferably with cruise if I can find one. I'm not in a massive rush as the missus has a company car (polo), so can be choosy.

I am half considering an L+K TDI 130 as an alternative but this is less likely, although I do really like these cars.

Right..  So...  Things didn't turn out quite as I envisaged.

We had to hand the keys of the company Polo back in November and at the same time my folks were thinking of getting another wagon.

They suggested that we buy their Octy from them for ease and convenience.... no vRS for me!!

We are now the owners of a:

2007 (56) Octavia Ambiente TDI 1.9 PD 105 in burgundy red (tried to find the right name for the colour) with a very light beige/stone interior:

To be honest not my first choice of vehicle but my folks did; full service, cambelt and waterpump and 4 new tyres. before we had it.

Things that need doing, not all of which I knew about:

High level brake light not functioning,

electric mirrors all messed up and mirror heaters not functioning,

air-con condenser has hole in it so no air-can,

very small amount of corrosion at base of one of the back doors.

some bubbling on the N/S sill...  (which I discovered yesterday) and probably because my folks rarely washed it...!

we paid my folks £2K for it.  Not the deal of the century I think with all those faults and the spec, and the fact its not my first choice, Mother was convinced it was worth £3.5K because I had suggested previously that some go for that in really good condition...

Little bit negative but it is a reliable box on wheels that will swallow half a house and keep going all day in relative safety and comfort which at the end of the day is what we need now with our 2 babies in tow!
