I guess with hindsight my reply was a little harsh, but it was at least accurate, it really irritates me when people post "I've done something stupid and mucked everything up threads". I didn't know the OP was a young girl otherwise I might not have used such grown-up language.

Thanks to the frog chorus of moronic guessmongers (I think you know who you are) for pointing that out.

Moral of the story; don't do the stupid thing in the first place. Get advice here beforehand.

firstly: dont go insulting people who are actually trying to help unlike you. your an idiot!!!

secondly: YOUR WRONG the engine isnt f***** so ha!! helpfull people are actually telling me how to reseat the sleves

thirdly: you must feel like such a big man picking on a 20yr old girl who is trying to learn about my car so in future if thing go wrong i actually have some sort of idea whats happened and how to fix it

and finally your proberbly some 40 year old virgin who reuses his dads pre spunk marked porno mags to jerk off and have nothing better to do but insult poeple who are trying to help other of thier own back. you say you appologised to me

how?

by saying you wouldnt have used such grown up words if you would have know i was a little girl??? go f*** yourself you condescending bellend (thanks for that phrase mattievrs)

seriously just stop posting on this thread as no one on here likes you because all you want to do is insult everyone

Love it!

just been thinking about this, believe it or not is actually possible to refit the liners with the engine still in the car ( with the cylinder head and sump removed) strictly speaking you don't need to take the crankshaft out, you also don't need to take the pistons out of the liners either, if you are careful you can lift them in and out of position with one hand and use the other hand to guide the connecting rods, you could push the piston to the top of the liner with your fingers and turn the crankshaft so the big ends are bottom.

the hardest thing to do is cleaning the seat that the liners sit on, you could probably use a kitchen scourer with a bit of brake fluid to get em clean, don't get brake fluid on your skin though.

Tom you are an absolute hero. I'm surprised you have time for a job with the amount of tinkering with cars you seem to do.

To the OP, Tom maybe as mad as a box of frogs but he knows what he is talking about.

I've rebuilt wet lined engines in Renault cars using that method in the dim and distant past...

oh yer one more thing, it's vital that you don't mix up the positions of the liners, they need to go back in the same original fitted location.

Nice, sweet advice Tom.

I'm amazed you rebuilt renault engines, I always thought they were pretty solid. The diesels at any rate.

@sepulchrave seriously wind your neck in, please. It's fine to express views, just moderate yourself. Given we all make mistakes and learn, it's called experience, and sometimes it's expensive.

Just think twice, and post in a less annoying way to your fellow community members. We'll all benefit then.

to the OP, good on you for having a go and learning. Get your dad to foot the bill ;)

Seen this same issue with the Rover K series lots of times. Reputable garages not fitting liner clamps and having the liners lift. Its a schoolboy error. One i'll admit to doing once haha!

Day

yes Colin, when I was about 19 I had a renault 5 gordini turbo, which had a type 840 crossflow engine, that was a very rare car when it was new, even rarer when I had it 25 years or so after.. Funny thing is I went to the Renault dealer which used to be near fratton park in portsmuth and told them I had an 840 type engine and the bloke in there was like "yeah right I don't believe you"... Anyway I digress, I worked for a Renault specialist when I was doing my apprenticeship a few years after too and i rebuilt loads of d series and f series 'energy' engines... They've got such a distinctive sound to them, even when I hear an old Clio driving along I can tell you which variant of the engine it is and how many cc's it is without even looking, just by the sound alone...

hope the op has managed to fix it, hope she's not been scared off by all the stuff in this thread.

did you get it sorted ?
