New Yeti owner

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

We've recently just swapped our Fabia vRS SE for a 12 plate Yeti (140 4x4 elegance), and I've got a couple of questions I was hoping someone might be able to advise on.

Firstly, the car is bloomin marvellous, dead comfy and plenty roomy enough for me, her, one little one, and a bump. It's got a few extras on it, like the big sunroof, xenons, rough road package, satnav etc. The only downside, is that it is painted white. Kind of apt for a yeti though I thought!

Anyway, after doing a long trip down to Cornwall, from Wales (M6, M5, A30, about 350 miles) the average fuel consumption is coming in at around 43mpg-45mpg. Does this seem about right for a Yeti with only 5000 miles on the clock? I'm not expecting it to be as good as our fabia was, but I was hoping for more than that on a long trip.

The other thing, is VCDS. I've got a lead that I use on my VW T4, but it is the bog standard one off ebay (about 8 quid it cost me) so no Canbus or anything like that. it works well on the T4, but does the Yeti need a particular lead to work with VCDS lite, and if so, can anyone point me to a suitable one? The reason I am interested, is that I want to remove that infernal double click to unlock all the doors (if possible) and also see if the Maxidot display can be reconfigured to get rid of the stupid km/h readout of the speed.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy, and welcome

Re mpg, you don't say what the current mileage is but you might find something relevant in the recent thread http://www.briskoda....n/#entry3284490 .

I'm sure someone else will be along to talk knowledgeably about VCDS and (it's true!) Australia :giggle:

Welcome and congrats on your new yeti. Terrific spec and you should enjoy it. Fuel mileage is much affected by speed-the best economy depends on your chosen cruising pace.

VCDS has to be ross tech but will co what you want.

Locking can be altered in maxidot.

As freedie says, you can change to single click locking in maxidot. The fuel consumption sounds about ok, particularly if you go faster than 70 mph indicated. Fuel consumption improves quite dramatically if you keep the speed down a bit (at least on the 1.2 petrol).

That's actually quite a good fuel consumption. I know the official figure is 48mpg, but if you can get within 10% you are doing very well! Isn't it like that with most cars/

That fuel consumption is about right. Is that from the maxidot or brim to brim?

My maxidot was about 10% out, so VCDS did its thing and it is pretty close now.

If you drop the speed to around 60mph you should get over 50+ mpg on a trip like that.

Your mpg sounds about right to me.

We,ve just come back from a return trip to South Wales.

Just over 500 miles at an average 49.5 mpg in our Greenline.

We did 53mpg last year going to cornwall and back ,but there were many more speed resrictions on the motorways then.

The best average we achieved in our previous 170 TDI was 43mpg, around 40 mpg was normal.

quick edit: These are all brim to brim figures. As Rockhopper says our 170' s maxidot was about 10% optimistic.Curiously the Greenline is just about spot on...
