Should it have been possible to pick this up at the MoT?

(I understand your explanation Mac - and I live by the sea.)

If its under 10 - it should be coverered by skodas 10 year corrosion warranty

I believe that warranty is for rusting paintwork (with no external surface damage).

It looks like the end of the rear tie bar on a 4x4 that attaches to the sperical type bearings on the rear hub, my money is that the bearing partially seized and fatigued the bar over time. Going outside to check mine later!

I would've thought it should be pretty obvious at MOT time...

if the MOT guys can tell if a rubber bearing is "worn out" even though it looks idententical to its new replacement,

surely they should be able to see a gap between pieces of metal that should on piece.....

Hmmmm, lets be realistic about this. In an MOT, there is a lot of criteria to check, in a short space of time, and the price is fixed by the government, so there isn't any room for profit or otherwise wasting time on stuff that isn't vital to the MOT inspection itself. It's something that could easily be missed.

To be fair to the tester it's not a part you would expect to fail like that so he wouldn't have spent ages looking at it.

Sorry but a heavily corroded part of the suspension should at least require the tester to give it a good inspection.

When was the last MOT done?

Yeah in a perfect world. I'm not surprised it was missed though

This happened on my mates audi tt 225 quattro

First reaction to pics - H*11's jingling bells!!

No way whatsoever should that have happened. My advice would be to replace both rear trailing arms and stub axles now, on the grounds that if one's like that the other's maybe nearly gone too.
