What should I keep in my car?

Featured Replies

I'm reupping this (awesome) thread...

Here's the list, tough most of the things have been previously listed from someone else, I have some cool personal tips (in green)

Left to the driver position

-Blue disc for parking (for those who don’t know here we have blue-lined parking that are free for 1h and you must put this blue disc on your car that indicates the time you arrived there)

-“Need to move this car? Here’s my number: xxxxxxx” plastified sign, very useful when there is no parking available and you want to park in a place that may be private or similar.

-Gloved, Hockey Club Ambrì-Piotta Ice/Snow brush (similar to this one)

-Work gloves (multiple uses)

Near the gearshift lever

-Spare home keys (this is VERY VERY useful!!!)

-Spare cash (CHF 20.- and EUR 20.-) for fuel (one night my bank card was broken and I was not able to refill my car)

-iPhone charger in the 12V port (with 2 USB ports)

-Minijack cable for AUX input

Storage compartment on the front passenger side

-All the documents for the car

-Pen

-A plastified sheet containing generic info for the car on one side (like serial number, tyre pressure specs, oil, fuel capacity…) and on the other side a copy of the user manual page with description of all Indicator/Warning Lights of the cluster

Luggage compartment

-First of all the luggage compartment pavement is fitted with one of those non-slip mats.

-Stock luggage net from skoda

-2x “SpanSet” for stabilizing luggage

-Summer/Winter wheels bolts (depending on the season, leave them there as I usually forget them at home when going to change tyres)

-Window cleaner liquid (don’t really know why it’s there an not at home hehe)

-Tyre compressor 12V powered

-12V to 220V adapter

-12W powered emergency torch

-Triangle

-Spare fuses

-Light emergency coat

-Towing rope

In summer you can add a soccer ball and my skateboard.

Under the luggage pavement

-Old car mat (useful if you are changing tyre on snow)

-Impermeable coat (those for concerts and similar)

-Snow chains (never used since it’s combi 4x4)

-I also have the stock reserve wheel under this compartment.

Some things I’m considering buyin after reading this thread:

-First aid Kit

-Fire extinguisher (mostly because I smoke in my car but can be useful)

-Seatbelt cutter/glass hammer

-Snow Shovel (I live in Switzerland! I'm still tryin to find one great but portable)

Cheers

Work hi-viz, RAC card, spare house key, phone charger and a spare lighter.

Anything that doesn't solve is what I pay the RAC for.

I have,

12v tyre inflator thing that has a light on it aswell,

A little torch,

Tow rope / towing bar,

Phone charger as i no longer trust modern phones battery life,

Small fire extinguisher,

Also have a spare coilpack in vrs's glovebox as we know how reliable they are,

Would always have a spare wheel even if its a space saver and something to change it with as tyre gunk won't fix a blowout

At this moment in time I have:

An AED

oxygen tank and various masks

A full equipped emergency response kit.

1tb hard drive with music

2 x fire extinguisher

1 booster seat

1 large axe

1 Sthil chainsaw

wet wipes

a box of latex gloves (large)

various pens

a pad

rear view camera sat nav

various sized torches

bottles of water

my spare blood glucose meter

spare change

gloves

a full sized alloy spare and jack

Skoda emergency kit (warning triangle, hi-vis vest, first aid kit and breathalyzers

I'm sure there's more but the first few items don't always live in there.

I have

Cd wallet

Hat incase my head gets cold

Locking wheel nut

Cherry airfreshener

A plastic box with all my cleaning stuff in the boot as im too lazy to go to the shed

Sunglasses and ice scraper. Got surgical gloves for work because if I leave them in the place they get nicked

Wait, so you have an ice scraper, blanket, tow rope and a sleeping bag but no shovel?

I have a spare pair of overalls for work (learnt that he hard way after falling into a slurry pit) which I suppose would also come in handy if I needed to change the wheel but didn't want to get covered in crap (not that I would usually mind)

And a pump, for tyres. I've had to use that once after a month of driving with the old Peugeot at college, left it in the car-park for the week, came back and the tyre was half flat. But then I was driving 50 motorway miles each end of the week so it mattered more. Now I drive 5 miles to a place where we have tools so it doesn't matter as much. I've been meaning to put some screen-wash in the boot and spare oil but don't have any oil and never got round to putting screen-wash in the boot. Good job I don't have a CAVE engine hey.

Oh, and the iPod so I never have to change CD.

And a CD in-case I have to change iPods.

The ice scraper will make its way into the car tomorrow morning no doubt. It's in the dining room at the moment.

I also had a jump box in the Peugeot because the battery didn't seam at its best (checked the car before I passed my test, the spare was flat so we pumped it up with the 12v pump and the car wouldn't start, so I got a box.

Spare had a nail in anyway, but that's not the point.

I don't have the box in the car anymore because we have one at work and 2 at home now, it adds weight, moves around, and why would you need one in an 11 reg VAG car?

Might get one of those little dehumidifiers sometime soon too, what do you think?

Hi, I've only recently got to actually own a car, so I'm curious about what stuff I should have there.

I now have: Tow rope, jump cables, ice scraper with a brush, squeegee, maps, blanket, umbrella, torch, couple of coins, cleaning rag, napkins, garden gloves, a bottle of water, and of course the mandatory stuff (vest, fuses, bulbs, first aid kit, the triangle).

I'm considering: 1kg fire extinguisher, windscreen washer liquid, 4 other vests for passengers, a proper sleeping bag (winter only), a cheap cell phone with long battery life + charger, a couple of spark plugs + spanner.

What else do you keep in your vehicle, or what you'd recommend me to have?

Expecting problems mate? :giggle:
