Skoda Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Morning all :hi: :hi:

I have a MK1 vRS at the moment, and i'm looking to upgrade to a 2006 vRS.

I know they are a 2.0T, but how do they compare to the 1.8T? I can get an average of 42MPG out of the MK1, which is crucial as i'm doing a lot of motorway driving.

Also, with the budget I have (6k), most of the VRS' i'm looking at have near on 70-80k on the clock, should I worry about this? Obviously if these are well maintained I should relatively easy see 160,000 miles out of these with no major hassle? (curreny VRS is on 140,000 and doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon!)

Is there much difference in speed between the two? Do they come with xenon headlights?

So, a little more information on these would go down a treat

I have just seen they do a diesel version too

Any info please?

Thanks

Depends how many miles you do if the diesel is worth the extra premium to you, if well maintained they go on forever like most cars, mine can top 40mpg on a long run doing sort of high 50's to 60mph average speed, but they are a little more thirsty then a mk1, shameless plug here but I'm selling my 2006 mk2 vrs in the for sale section for well under your budget :) have a look.

2006 VRS has the TFSI engine. It's not as economical as the newer TSI.

Expect to get 35mpg at 70mph, 32mpg at 80mph, if you drive carefully and less in winter.

My 07 TFSI has 71k on the clock and the engine has been faultless in that time and behaves no differently from when I got it new. I use the fixed servicing and the car gets done every 9500 miles. I've never scrimped on servicing and everything has been done to the book or better.

TFSI needs (IMHO) good fuel to run properly. So I found that to mean branded 95RON or if it must be supermarket fuel it has to be Super Unleaded (Tesco 99 for me).

No xenons as standard.

In 2007 Skoda did a free options deal that included 18" alloys, dual zone climate, jumbo box / armrest and rear electric windows. If you can I'd pick one of the cars with that deal unless you're seeing a significant saving on one without.

Check to see if the ESP module has been replaced they're a weak point on all VRS (petrol and derv), if it's not been done budget for it (~£300). TFSI also needs a timing belt every 4yr so the 06 would be due next year, derv might be the same.

I have an 08 vRS TDI and it is great car. As above mine has this pack including Xenon's and heated bum warmers and touch screen sat nav.

mine has 76K but miles don't bother me as I will put a few on it anyway. The standard 170bhp motor is lively enough and pulls well and will keep up with a lot of cars out there. If you would consider remapping it has lots of potential with a remap seeing 205bhp sometimes a wee bit more.

If you are looking at a derv version check for the injector recall being done, quite essential and check its service history as always if it's been neglected it will no doubt start to be troublesome!!

One annoying yet common fault I have had is rear tyre wear, can be horrendous if the rear tracking isn't set up right.

Overall I love it and am sure I will only upgrade to a newer one when the time comes, and I went derv due to the roads I drive otherwise petrol my have been an option :-)

PS- as above hunt out the ones that have the extras already and you could well find a really well spec'd one for a good price as a lot of folk in the used car market are not overly aware of what's standard or not, I wasn't!!!

If fuel economy really is a concern I'd say a TDi is the way foward; petrol ultimately the faster and more rewarding car true enough but the TFSi is a thirsty wotsit and using it as nature intended if you see low 30's out if it you'd be doing v well.

The diesel is still a 170hp car and packs quite a torque sledgehammer; in every day driving its really not alot slower and will more or less return 40mpg if spanked and nearer 50 if driven sensibly.

Both cars have their issues though. The TFSi is direct injection and due to a debatably flawed design they can get coked up and then drive like a bag of shat. Big bill to get that sorted properly too as a DIY engine treatment wont fix it. The PD injected TDis of the age of car you are looking at suffer from injector failures (imperative that any car you buy has been through the VOSA injector replacement programme - most cars have now) also the particulate filters can be troublesome on older higher mileage cars if they've not been treated correctly; a replacement DPF or DPF removal will then likely be required.

If it were my money id find myself a nice spec TDi and budget in a decent map, DPF and EGR valve delete; be looking at a 215/220hp car with 320/340lb/ft torque that'd be quicker than a standard TFSi and still return late 40's mpg.

It's easy to spot if the vRS has factory fitted xenon headlights, if it has headlight washers just under the headlights then they are fitted.

TDi PD170 with a remap and a DPF delete, I've got one and it's a great car, does 51/52 mpg and pulls like a train. Love mine.
