Halfords 130w full beam bulbs

Featured Replies

I have just fitted some halfords Super Brilliance (50% brighter) headlamp bulbs, and thought, to compliment them some 130w rally main beam bulbs. Is it just me, or do these rally 130 bulbs just throw light to the sky, and to the floor, with no light between. I have installed them correctly and double checked, but the beam pattern was useless. The super brilliance on the other hand seem alot better than the standard bulbs.

I have put the standard high beam bulbs back in now and they are alot better than the 130's.

Has anybody had similar experience? Can anyone recommend a high power main beam bulb?

Cheers

Dave

I just used the uprated bulbs for my mains (which are the same bulbs as your dipped IIRC as I've got Xenons). The ones I've got are the Osram ones, and they are distinctly better than the standard ones. The beam pattern is rubbish compared to the Xenons, in that it's less 'sharp' but they are very good.

The ralley ones may just be giving you a LOT of light, far away from the car, rather than lighting the road nearer the front of the car. Think that was the main difference between the Philips & Osram ones in this case as well.

Find a dark lane and see how far you can see ;)

Up Down, left and right....I think Jon measured in excess of 1.5 miles for signage illumination...

Keep meaning to do a night photo shoot with different cars and bulbs...

Thanks Colin,

played around last night and as ww vrs says, the lamps are bright, just not putting the light where i want it. Swapped the bulbs for 100w today, same as in my pug, so hopefully these will be better. They certainly work well in the pug.

bah... Try to 150w ones!

Ran some Philips 100W Rallye bulbs in my Fabia and they shone the light straight ahead just where you wanted it. Highly recommend them, especially as I spent a lot of the winter driving pitch black country lanes :D Must order some more for the new motor ;)

Had a drive down some pitch black b roads at speed last night, and the 100w bulbs were twice as good as the 150w bulbs. The 150w left a dark hole just where you wanted to see, the 100w, perfect. Recommended. Cheap too.
