Underseal

Featured Replies

Great for helping stave off rust from undercar bits and bobs.

Pain in the ar5e to get off your skin!:rofl:

Sat here typing with great big black marks down my arms/hands from the splashes. Was laying it on good and thick yesterday - Still got more to do, and then a second coat. Was amazing how much of the underside was starting to show signs of rust, especially the rear axle area! Gonna give that THREE coats.

If anyone's planning to keep their car for some time I would recommend giving all the underside a good coating!

Oh, and DON'T do the exhaust pipes FFS!:D

Something you'd like to tell us Jason?

 have a feeling it will kinda burn off ;)

Thought UK spec'd cars came with an underseal?

I remember reading than an imported renault sport clio doesnt have an underseal, whereas the full uk spec does.

No, I did NOT underseal my exhaust pipes, just wanted to make sure no-one else did. There was a gunky substance over most of the chassis, but there were stone chips in it, and I could see bare chassis in places! So extra thick gunk was applied there. Its the non-sealed components which are more at risk, such as the rear axle. I couldn't believe how much corrosion seemed to be setting in around the rear hubs sort of area. Alarming for a 5 yearold car....

Oh, and the sills are not as well undersealed as the bottom part is. I went along slowly lining up with the bottom of the actually painted part of the sills, and laying more on here. Sills seem quite exposed to general jacking wounds, etc, so would benefit from a good coat or two of underseal than many other areas.

Its that rear axle area which has got me a little stumped...

Are the most exposed panels not galvanised on the furby like they are on the octy.
