Come on, its a serious question and, luckily, I didn't post it in the lounge ;)

Your local school's chemistry lab will probably have stock. Most of it comes from places like ICI, IIRC...

Cheers Rob, I'll have a look for a local chemnicals place.

Didn't know if you could buy it off the shelf. Or whether you needed a licence.

There's a company that makes it called Wine Inns Ltd (google is your friend on their info), based in Belfast. Even if they couldn't sell you any, they could probably tell you about licensing, storage, etc. :D

Didn't vintage cars need to use a mix of methanol and petrol? Maybe enthusiast websites might know of some dealers... :)

Try http://www.76racing.co.uk

(can't post a direct link to it, but it's under products > racing fuels)

Lovely stuff, burns with no visible flame. First sign of a fire is when your skin starts to fry ! :D

Big K, At first it will probably be used just in the water spray syatem for the intercooler. Or I might just use a screenwash mix.

My main though was to make a 30% solution with distilled water and use in the water injection (when I get round to it  ) Just wanted to see if it was readily available.

Have since found that Demon Tweeks sell an additive with similar properties for just this purpose.

I use methanol as a fuel injected into the inlet manifold of my Golf diesel,it gives nearly 50hp bolt on!! on top of the 190 or so it already has

Hmm, ever seen a pit fire at an Indy race? Not nice. Poor guys can't see where the fire is, they can just feel it.

Thats exactly the point i was making Howard, its dodgy stuff

The only reason they continue to use it for CART / IRL is that a methanol fire only needs to be doused with water to extinguish it, they dont need to have foam gear, Powder or CO2 gear in the pits.
