Sun Shades

Featured Replies

Just got some of these blinds for the hatch, as hardly anyone does the hatch ones apart from Vanstyle/Palm Auto/Car Shades.

They seem pretty sturdy and good quality, and come with a bag. Easy to fit.

The rear door ones fit well, with 3 metal clips, that hook under the rubber trim around the window.

The hatch one comes in 2 pieces, seems strange it cant be 1 piece like the estate rear door?

So you get a line down the middle, not too bad, but they haven't included a cut out for the high level brake light, so you cant attach the clips at the top edge.

I had to attach the clips in the middle to hold it together. Seems to hold, but I'm in touch with them to discuss why it doesn't fit properly.

The Sonniboy ones are a complete rear section, not split in half like that, the line down the middle would drive me mad!  Thrice the price though!

Yeah I saw those, look nice but too expensive.

If your going to pay that much you might as well have the tinting film installed.

Already have the Sun Protect Glass (albeit its very light compared to my BMW), but at least with these you can remove and re-add at will, not like a film :)

Fitted the Sonniboy blinds yesterday and can say, despite being generally useless at such things, they were all on perfect fit in about 20 minutes. Cost a bit but look good and seem like they'll be durable and not rattle so maybe depends how long you intend to keep the car whether they're worth it or not. Cheers again for all the comments on here that helped me pick the right ones for me

+1 for Sonniboy shades. Were 200€ two years ago when I bought them, now they have them listed at 169€. I put them on beginning of May and off end of September usually. Prefer it over the tinted windows since that's permanent. Might buy one set for the Fabia now as well.

Vanstyle/Palm Auto/Car Shades have contacted me and said that is the only shape they produce, so it does not fit over the brake light section very well.

They will however send me some more and different clips to secure the blinds with.

So far the blinds haven't fallen down, despite some pretty bumpy roads around here.

I have the SuperSkoda ones but the clips for the rear screen keep coming off; has anyone replaced the double sided foam sticky stuff with anything stronger to get a proper good hold?

Something like this - http://www.tapes-direct.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1060 or http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gorilla-Glue-Heavy-Duty-Mounting-Tape-Double-Sided-Weatherproof-Crystal-Clear-/131766609177

maybe we can do a group buy where everyone chips in, buy one roll and cut off your section and post on to the next person............. :D

This thread has reminded me I really ought to sort out sun shades for the sake of the kids.

X-shades - website gone

Sonniboy - too expensive (especially as I am only interested in side blinds, so single rear piece is not an advantage to me)

So that really leaves Vanstyle/Palm Auto/Car Shades, so can someone confirm that they are now supplying blinds/clips correctly? Would be for an estate.

So I've been digging around these threads and from what I can see, am I right in saying there isn't a screen option for the hatch without the line down the middle of the rear window, as per the Sonniboy ones?

I like the look of the Sonniboy ones and would go the cost but not for that ugly line down the middle!!!

The Vanstyle/Palm Auto/Car Shades are only about £70, but the hatch glass is 2 pieces, so you have a line down the middle.

Bearing in mind its double if not treble the price to get the glass tinted, I can live with a line down the middle.

Suppose you could just get the hatch done, that must be less than £100.

It's the same for the estate. But not such a big deal as far as i'm concerned

To answer the other question above; got mine last week and they came with the correct clips

I just found this, after quite some search

https://www.winparts.nl/interieur-bekleding/privacy-shades/skoda/octavia-5e3-bouwjaar-2012-11/c187-559-30701/zonwering-skoda-octavia-iv-hatchback-5drs-2013-3-delig/p383081.html

Why I kept looking: I don't like the vanstyle thing with the split rear screen, sonniboy only makes for estate and mine is a hatch (and it's stupid expensive), x-shades seemed awesome but is inaccessible apparently

Has anyone ever tried these Laitovo thingies? I am very tempted to order, just thought I check in here first

Those look good, much better than some of the other options I and others have found. Did you decide to get some in the end?

Not yet, I want to get the roller sun shades retrofit first. Will post back here how all this goes ;-)

Here's my experience for anyone looking for shades for the liftback model. I can warmly recommend the Laitovo set. I just installed the complete rear set (2xrear doors + rear window) for the liftback (without the rear window wiper) today. The positive part here is that the rear window is in one piece. I paid 138 € for the whole set + a bag of reserve clips (in this case postage to Finland was free).

I ordered the set directly from the Laitovo site at laitovo.eu. The set wasn't in stock and they were quick to inform me about this and estimated three weeks for delivery. This would have been roughly correct, but the package got lost in Finland for over two weeks. Laitovo sent me the tracking code right after dispatching the package.

Installation was really simple and all three shades fit really nicely. All the clips have fabric coating, so that they do not scratch the metal surfaces (you install the clips under the rubber shield running around the rear door windows and under the plastic panel at the top of the rear window; there is even a special coated tool included to slightly pull the rear window panel to fit the clips). In general I am really happy with the quality and ease of installation.

Hey thanks tommi this is a nice review, awesome news. Will get mine asap. Post pics if you can. Cheers

Here's a quick pic of the Laitovo set just after the installation. I will try to take more particularly of the rear window shade.post-42458-0-27370900-1472833934_thumb.jpg

Coolness thanks!

One more question if you don't mind (mainly my wife's concern): is it quick to take off and put back if needed?

Ok so I could not wait longer.. I ordered, with the magnetic holders. It said free shipping so I assume it will take a while, assuming they have stock. Will post back one received and installed.

Coolness thanks!

The ones on the rear door windows come off and can be put on in few seconds. I have the ones with the regular clips and I'm guessing that it's even quicker with the magnetic ones. The big one on the rear window is also easy to get off, but requires a bit more fiddling (bending and twisting) as the lower edge and the sides fit snuggly in the recess between the paneling and the window. The problem with the rear window one is that it is so big that I do not know, where to store it :)

The picture shows the idea of the rear window shade, i.e. I have just two clips at the top - one on either side of the brake light - rest fits tightly against the edge of the paneling and window.

Has anyone installed the laitovo blinds on their Octavia estate??

I've just picked up my new vrs an want to get some ordered asap but not sure on quality of fit

  • 2 weeks later...

Fellow briskodians, this is good stuff.

Much like tommi pommi here I used only 2 clips for the hatch, and I ordered magnets so I have those installed. Not a joy I will be honest and for me the fit is not 100% either, however all 3 pieces sit smugly, easy to remove if needed and provide the nice cool shade as advertised

One more note: the hatch shade is not the same quality as the sides one that you can see in the videos on the Laitovo site. My guess is that since they are angled they would completely block the view for the driver as well.

Photos attached, questions welcome. Overall I am pleased with it, if any of that changes (since I did not drive a meter since it's installed) I will post back.

Thanks for the follow up posts - really useful! How have you found them now you have driven around for a while with them?

Also, any chance you could put up an external picture or two (e.g. side on with doors shut) - we have the same point colour so would really help me to decide finally - I'm 95% sure about getting these ones :)

Thanks Gyuri

Hi there

Sure, here you go. Not a lot of sun here nowadays, but I hope it gives you the idea. I also have the factory tinted windows.
