Sun Shades

The x shades look pretty good. Anyone had experience of using both uv and x? Any preference for one over the other?

Back in November I got an answer from superskoda that sun shades for Octavia 3 models might be available in February/March 2014. Well that didn't happen so I asked once again and after 3 emails in a week finally got a reply saying the shades will probably be available this year   :wonder:  That kinda sucks since I want the ones where the shade for the rear window is made from one piece and not two. Found a bunch sun shades for Estate where it's made from two pieces but I just hate the look of it (vertical line in the middle after installation). There is however one German manufacturer (ClimAir) which has the type of shades I want but they come at a price - 200€ (+20€ shipping)  :(  The ones I don't like can be purchased for 100€ (incl. shipping)...

Anyway I did some research and this 'Sonniboy' shades (from ClimAir) are recommended but still hesitating whether to buy them or not.

For those interested (Estate versions):

Sonniboy sun shades - 5pcs-200€ (rear window shade from one piece)  --> more info here

Solar ride sun shades (from Spain) - 6pcs-77€ (rear window shade from two pieces)

What does both together make, factor 200 or something LOL, I like the look of the x shades and at £36.90 plus shiping I'd have em too but, the site does't have the UK as a selectable country for a delivery address.  I've e-mailed them and I'm sure theywill be soon.  Thanks for the installed photo's myself24483

Problem with the sunset glass is that IMHO it does make the interior in the rear quite dark and dingy; also for the kids you do still really need blinds.

Think its a shame Skoda have overlooked this with the Mk3 as custom fit blinds would be if interest to me too if available.

Received this via email today following my enquiry

Hi The Octavia III shades are still in development for the 2014 model
but they should be released in the next month

Kind regards

I like the X shades but am really after a 5/6 piece set for the estate. The sonniboy look fine but expensive, guess that optical zoom feature is where the cost comes in :)

Well I went for it afterall - ordered a set of Sonniboy sun shades . The little one is now one month old so we decided to get some better sun protection before the longer journeys that are due in two weeks time  :)  Expensive as they are I just wouldn't be happy with that vertical line in the middle of rear window that you get with other options.

Will post some pictures when I get the shades.

I have ordered the X-shades for my VRS estate. Arrived today and fitted within a few minutes. Quality is decent and fit is perfectly fine.

Junior should be happy in the shade going forward...

Well, looks like x shades is no more as website says it has finished. On the bright side uvcarshades.co.uk is showing the octavia 2013 onwards as a option to buy rear window and tailgate shades as a set.

Unfortunately the rear is a 2 piece set from uvcarshades.co.uk & I dont know if I could learn to live with that big stripe down the rear screen

Does anyone supply a single shade option for the rear screen on the hatch? I've not seen one, except for the estate but that set was almost £200. I guess the hatch screen slopes too much for a single shade so needs two pieces to reinforce the edge and prevent sagging or falling out of place? I suppose if you want seemless, tinting is the only way to go.

Well, I bought the uvcarshades window blinds for octavia 3. I wish I never bothered as they don't fit. They are to big and the clips to hold the shades are wrong shape for window frame and would scratch the paint of window/door frame. They are correct shape shade just been rushed through. Oh and don't get me started with the instructions!! Very poor! All in I would recommend in my opinion and experience that you DO NOT BUY THESE WINDOW SHADES!!!

Pumatron, I also ordered a set from uv car shades and I'm also disappointed with the fitment and clips provided. They are definitely not up to the standard of the ones I had on my mk2 Octy. I've sent them an email stating my concerns and will wait and see if I get a response. Definitely not "made to fit each vehicle perfectly" as advertised!

I to have emailed them my concerns so hopefully they will realize it's not just one set that is at fault.

I've been looking at uv car shades and found they're based in my town mansfield. I was going to pop round one day to take a look and see if I can buy from their unit.

Yikes. I have ordered some after positive reports on here and deliverly is scheduled for Tuesday. I have emailed uv car shades stating that TWO Briskoda members are reporting that the Octy III don't fit with a link to this thread!

If I am number three then they can have them back and refund me!

:-(

Two days since I sent email and no reply yet...hopefully hear something soon?

Yep I'm the same, no reply yet. Hopefully get something from them soon.

Well my Sonniboy shades on the other hand fit perfectly. Received the package two weeks ago and I must say they are of very good quality. Easy to install, no rattles while driving and still good vision from inside out. For 200€ they don't come cheap but still very reccomended. As promised I took a few pics as well.

Hmm they do look good, do they do the set of 3 for the HB also ?

If you've gotta link it'd help, long sighted on a smart phone ain't very smart.

They don't have them listed for HB at the moment unfortunately. Here is the link for all the Skoda models anyway...

hehe Peko you've got a little mini monitor for kiddie entertainment! :-)

I installed my X-shades (rear windows only) the other day and I'm satisfied with the fit and performance. But why have they gone out of business? Very strange. I should count myself lucky that I didn't just lose my cash I guess!

Nope it's just a mirror so I can see the little one in the rear-facing infant car seat  :)  She is only 2 months old so wouldn't be interested in cartoons and I'm not a fan of this sort of kids' entertainment anyway.

No response here too. The shades were delivered yesterday but I didn't have chance to open the box as I spent last evening with my printer in bits.

MINE FROM VANSTYLE aka PALM AUTOMOTIVE DO NOT FIT. And still no response to original email.

Same problem as above, too big.
