Central Locking Locks Everything, But Only Unlocks Drivers Door

Featured Replies

A couple of weeks ago my car alarm went off while it was stood (locked) in our car port. A neighbour heard it and phoned me, but by the time I got out the alarm had stopped and only the hazard lights were flashing. Locking it with the remote worked fine.

Two days ago we came back to our car, unlocked it and got in. As my wife shut her door and before I had a chance to put the key in the ignition, the doors locked and the alarm went off. I used the remote to cancel it.

I suspected the 5 year old remote might be the problem, so today I used the unused spare key. Now the remote locks all doors etc properly, but will only open the drivers door. The other doors can be opened by using the switch near the gear lever or by pressing the unlock button on the remote twice quickly.

Using the key instead of the remote still only unlocks the drivers door.

Is this a problem that can be easily sorted by me or will I have to take the car to a dealer?

Any help anyone can give will be great.

Does your car have Maxidot? You can set this in there under the comfort settings.

double press unlock to unlock all doors. It can be changed with VCDS or like JB says, if you have Maxidot I think.

Yes, I've got maxidot in the car. I'll look into it now.

The double press to open all doors is a 'safety' option I believe. e.g. stops anyone passing by jumping in another door and hijacking you as you get in. That is my understanding anyway. Makes sense in some crowded places perhaps.

Just to cover anything I might have missed, I've done a "factory reset" on Maxidot and all seems to be well now with the remote opening all locks and all other settings seem to be as I want them.

Thanks for the tips.
