Weird Side lights issue post Facelight

Featured Replies

Hello fella briskoda peeps,

Please bare with me as am a newbie to the Skoda front...... :giggle:

Doing a bit of a bulb check on the car and noticed that the sidelights were not working at all. Now i do have the DRL's on my Vrs. Now i changed the sidelight bulbs which haven't made any difference..... So my question is do the DRL's overtake the side lights or why wouldn't my side lights be working.....lost is not the word......

Also being a person who has OCD.. lol....i noticed 2 LEDs out on my driver side mirror wassit indicator lights....not looking to replace yet but had a hard task looking at the world of google to find where i can buy a replacement......

The sidelights don't work on the Vrs, you have DRL's. the light unit is a Standard unit across the Octavia range

The bulbs are fitted but there not wired up. When you put your lights on the DRL's dim to become side lights. They also double up as Parking lights, via the indicator stalk

Hope that Helps

Welcome by the way

You'll find the LED DRLs dim in side light mode and remain on with dipped beam on. The DRLs are effectively the sidelights too on the vRS.

Strangely Skoda still fit the sidelight and european DRL bulbs into the vRS headlampn i guess because its easier and cheaper to stick bulbs in than blank then off.

Ive never checked but i suspect the sidelight and DRL bulbs have no wiring but may be wrong, a recode may change their behaviour but doubt it.

Oh...and re the wing mirror indicators I think you can buy the LED unit as a separate part for about 70 quid but you have to remove the mirror glass and take the mirror assembly apart to replace not a very easy job

See......i am new to this wonderful world of Skoda.. :giggle: ....i had my suspicions that the DRL's would be in place....but then i am a former Vec C owner and even having rear electric windows is a god send....

Love the car though....thank you peeps....

The MOT tester wanted to fail my car for no side lights because of this. I had to insist that the DRL's act as side lights, and he ended up phoning someone to check I was right.

MOT testers want blood not money.....but then they forget all the time the rules change.....

As i recall i think you can buy the separate unit but its more where can i get one from apart from the Skoda direct.....I did find some amazing instructions on here on how to change the unit.....perfect....thought my garage guru owes me so either way i would be happy.....:D

If the car is still in warranty the mirror repeaters should be replaced free. I got mine done week before the warranty was up.
