My Morris has been off the road for a while.  All over winter actually.

But it's now back in action!

 

 

Picked it up today from my local (and very good) classic car specialists and went for a drive.

 

 

Don't think I've ever been so scared going into a corner at 30mph.

1934 Morris 10-4.

1.3 litre, 22hp sidevalve. 4 speed.

Cable operated brakes, no servo (stopping = lots of planning ahead!)

It is a lovely old thing, but top cruising speed is around 45mph on the flat and 40(ish)mph on inclines.

Also needs a fair bit of upkeep.

 

Just after I bought it the engine threw a conrod, so it's had a complete bottom end rebuild and now runs very well.

Parts are not exactly easy to come by so an amount of bits had to be made unfortunately, took a fair bit of time.

Hence it's been off the road over the winter.

 

Handling best described as... interesting.

Oh yes and it's from before they standardised the pedals.

So the accelerator is in the middle and the brake is on the right.  Clutch as usual.  That takes a bit of getting used to.

It's surprisingly similar to a regular car other than the manual ignition timing, pedals round the wrong way and the starter button being on the floor.

 

Manual choke, same three pedals but in a different order and main controls where you'd expect them.

Standard H pattern four speed (+reverse) gear positions as in my Ford Sierra I used to have.

I know the feeling - I took an open-topped Austin 7 round Silverstone last year! 

 

Nice looking car though, love these old pre-war cars. So easy to see how everything works/learn from too.

It's kind of like an overspill parking facility for cars that don't get much use.
