Gunsons EZ Bleed

Featured Replies

anyone have one of these or a similar kit willing to lend a hand in Cambridge area (week) and Birmingham (weekend) for beer tokens?

Thanks :)

I did mine last weekend!

Bought one off ebay for £18 or so!

Never bled brakes before but it is soo simple! Buy one it will always be handy :)

I have one but too far away from you,  BE CAREFUL opening the bleed nipples, they can sheer off easily, I also run my tyre at less than 15 psi as I find a lot of brake fluid vapour blows back down the pressure pipe (my EZ bleed is 20 years old!)

As above, dont use more than 20 psi or pipes start blowing off. Give each bleed nipple a good soak through too before cracking it loose.

Well I'm planning on doing the 312mm brake upgrade soon. Would I have to bleed the rear brakes too? Or only the fronts after I've done each side.

Use a brake pipe clamp on the rubber hose and remove your front callipers, you should be OK with only bleeding the fronts.

I don't even think I've got one to be fair. if I'm unable to bleed it on the day of fitting, am I right in saying it can still be driven, just won't be 100% efficient because of the air in the system.

Also when removing the brake pipe from my 288 calipers, is the fluid going to pee out quickly? Ha

Yes you will lose fluid and no you shouldn't drive it as the brakes will be full of air!

If you do lose fluid, simply get somebody to press the brake pedal down whilst the bleed nipple is open, then tighten the nipple, get your mate to take the foot off the brake pedal, open the bleed nipple and get your mate to press the pedal down again, repeat this a few times so as only fluid and no air comes out of the bleed nipple.  Job done and safe to drive.

just remember not to let the brake pedal hit the floor. it will have done xxxxxxx amount of miles only using the top half of brake pedal travel. this causes the master cylinder to wear and can cause damage to the seals if the pedal goes further than normal

Do not clamp brake hoses

They are internally braided and will get damaged

Bleed all the brakes! Fluid is toast after 2 years anyways so might as well bleed the lot!

Along with the clutch and master cylinder

I used ATE racing blue dot 4 (easy to see when its bled through as its blue)

DO NOT CLAMP BRAKE HOSES.....    why ever not?   There is a whole range of brake pipe clamp tools especially for the job,

Do not clamp them they are internally reinforced, clamping knackers them

Also do not pump pedal, can blow master cylinder seals

Do not go above 15 PSI

At about 17 one of the valves closes and it doesn't bleed properly.

Also read not to clamp brake hoses on the fabia, probably in haynes, as I was surprised to read it too!

Going to wait for my mate who's an Audi tech to give me a hand. is pagid dot 4 from ecp, compatible with my fr tdi right?

Yes dot 4 or dot 5.1 is fine

Do not use dot 5

Do you know how much my car would take for complete flush? Even though I had my fluid changed 2 months ago max, is there any adverse effects of mixing fluids? Ie the Pagid stuff in with the current stuff (not sure on brand) that midland vw used.

Just used one of these tonight, having just fitted my 312mm front brake and 256mm vented rear brakes, thought the car would benefit from a full rake fluid change. Also did the clutch while I was at it.
