2nd breakdown in last 2 months

Featured Replies

Just returned form local dealer after being recovered there for the 2nd time in last 2 months by RAC. RAC very efficient. Combined wait of 20 minutes for both incident. On each occasion they followed me to the garage and returned me home. If only skoda were as efficient.

Same problem on each occasion. Would be interested to here from anyone with a similar problem or any suggestions.

Problem involves the main cooling fan coming on and staying on when the car is parked up and everything cold.. On each occasion the first indication of a problem is the alarm going off. The only way to stop it is unlock the car manually with the key.

On the first occasion the car had been sitting at my wifes work for about 6/7 hours. Battery goes so flat that jump leads no use. Only thing that happens when you connect them is cooling fan comes on and just enough power to operate central locking with key. RAC got it started with booster pack. If you switch it off battery dead again within a minute as fan continues to run

On this occasion car had been sitting in drive for 36 hours. Same thing - alarm going off, battery completely dead. RAC started and car now at garage again.

On first occasion the only reason the garage could give was a bent pin on the connector block on the main fan. Seemed to cure problem. On a positive note if there is one the guy from the RAC (same one on both occasions) said he only ever usually gets called to flat tyres on skodas. HE said fault must be "something out of the ordinary" and was not a problem he had encountered on any model before.

His hunch was "body module" if anyone knows what that is or water ingress into electrics or problems linked to particulate recycling, apparently this uses extreame temps to burn off soot and incorporates cooling fan to cool exhaust. Have spoken to garage before about erratic idle speed - told that was DPF related and normal.

Interested to hear anyones thoughts. Will update what the garage come up with. Skoda replacement car should be here in 30 minutes. Can also highly recommend that service having used it twice now.

skoda should just replace the "module" that handles the cooling fan, and any assosiated sensors, and that should do the trick... not heard of this problem before though!

Interesting.  I started my car up from cold last week only went 2 miles, warmed up but no display of oil temp (so probably not warmed up) and turned car off.  Cooling fan came on which I found strange.   Started the car up again and let it run a moment and then turned it off, fan went off.

Maybe its a one off glitch but I might keep an eye out now.

No issues with battery or anything.

Will keep you posted.
