New engine/gearbox combination coming

...and I quote

An attractive new engine-transmission combination available for the popular compact SUV ŠKODA Yeti . The all-wheel drive Škoda Yeti 2.0 kW TDI/125 is from June also with automatic 6-speed dual clutch transmission (DSG) available for order. The direct shift gearbox offers the convenience of an automatic switching in combination with fast gear changes with no interruption in tractive power. The combined fuel consumption of the diesel top engine is only 6.3 l/100 km.

I think the site was called http://new.skoda-auto.com/en

The 6 speed DSG twin-clutch engine variant has been available in the UK for nearly three years, as kitten and I had the first 'auto' gearbox in this config to be released to the UK market.

We had at wait until August 2010 for the engine, and picked up 'Ivor' on 1st Sept 2010, and have been nothing but impressed since the first turn of his key. :D.

But this engine combo has not been available before, as we have the 103kw engine, Mac

So this is the 170bhp engine?

6,3 l/100 km is not all that good - worse than the current 170 TDI

So this is the 170bhp engine?

125 kW is approximately 170 bhp, so yes.

Its 125KW, 170PS or 168bhp.

I have the 140bhp engine variant, so I'm guessing I have the 103Kw engine???

Yep. Just like me...... Well almost

But of course. The 6 speed wet clutch DSG is less efficient than a manual 'box.

That's only to be expected.

The 6 speed is a wet clutch box with extra drag, unlike the dry clutch 7 speed.

The DSG version using the 6 speed always have heavier fuel consumption figures than the manual versions.

Darn it! This is going to cost me some extra money now :-)

Likely a new option for the facelift model when it arrives? I'm hoping to order once I've seen the way it looks.

Interestingly I've just been on the configure my Skoda part of the SUK website.

Sure enough, the 170PS diesel 4x4 DSG is showing... although the price is listed at £0, so it's not sorted yet.

Will be interesting to see what other engine/gearbox mods are introduced with the facelifted models. Maybe stop/start will become more standard across the range?

Only showing on the configurator in elegance spec too at the moment.

The diesel 170 PS 4x4 DSG is now showing on the configurator.

Elegance: £25,245  (£635 more than the 140 4x4 DSG)

L & K : £27,180  (£770 more than the 140 4x4 DSG)

Does this suggest they won't be upgrading the 170 unit to the 181 unit (as in the Octy 3 vRS) come face lift time?

I was rather hoping they would.

£635-£770 more for 30bhp seems a bargain! I know a remap would be cheaper but this is out of the factory etc... Does anyone know if the gearbox is updated in anyway or is the torque limited to the same as the 140bhp version?

Not sure it says anything one way or the other. It's not uncommon for minor spec changes (very welcome though this one might be) to have a relatively short shelf-life before being overtaken by subsequent updates, eg a FL model.

Wouldn't surprise me one way or the other. But if the FL was only about minor cosmetics then it wouldn't be much of a marketing proposition - I'd like to think that there might be a few other goodies in the FL package. And, perhaps with a bit of wishful thinking, it might also suggest the possibility of a more powerful petrol DSG.

The same 170 engine is mated to the same DSG box in the previous Octavia VRS and the Superb.

You don't need to de tune the 170 engine because of the DSG box.

Wow...  finally there might be a reason for me to upgrade my Yeti.  Hmmm...  As I have voiced before I have a near full house Yeti and just buying another like-for-like one does not really appeal.  But a new FL Yeti with a 170hp DSG.........  tasty indeed.

This will have a very short life though in the current shape.  And an even shorter time to be ordered in, since orders will be closing at some point to prepare the factory for the FL production.

A CR170 4x4 DSG, or, even better, the CR181 with 4x4 and DSG would be well aligned with my interests.

Though I'd still like to see the 300bhp S3 engine in the Yeti. I'd like that a lot.

I would like to see stop start across the range including DSG's.

Another benefit of the CR170 DSG over the CR140 DSG. The CO2 is less (by 5g/km)

In terms of new sales, I think we are in the minority. :D
