Guinness Record Attempt "Largest Parade of Skoda vehicles"

On our national meeting there is a chance we can make an world record attempt.

To do this we need to establish and  film/photograph a moving parade of skoda's.

We need to achieve a parade route of 2 miles; route to follow.

We also need to find 6+ stewards to verify/count the numbers. These people cannot benefit from the record or they be a expert/legal/auditor/police.

To be in with a chance we need 250+ cars moving over the route.

The only way I can see this happening is a defined start time, we file out of the site and then back in. At a 2 mile circuit it should not take more than 20mins each.

The question I have is mainly of the legal one... 2 miles public highway, 250+ cars, as an organiser there must be something I need to be aware of... any pointers?

  • Having discussed it further with a few people and those at Gaydon, the circuit is the only viable option. Regrettably you have to book it a year in advance and I only thought about a record attempt

  • How many black and gold cars are there likely to be? :(

  • 3Km ...isnt that just 8 superbs ?

Do you have Public Liability Insurance in the name of the club/forum for this event?

Don't you have to stay fairly close together?

How can you do this on the public highway.

I think this is why Nissan did it with the LEAF at Silverstone.

Would it work to just all pile into the nearest motorway services and file out, lap back via next junction.

Yes have to have a no more than 2 car gap.

Unless my map reading skills are defunkt I'm going to have to use public highway. Spoke to the police, happy operators they have.

To maintain a no gaps then it will need a temp closure, which might be hard to wangle this close.

Plan B investigating tomorrow ;) It's shame the roads next to Gaydon are behind a security barrier, it's almost 2 miles exactly :)

Plan C is one of those BBC like wheels of inner loops... they don't specify how fast they must go... but I can't see John at Gaydon being to happy by his wholecar park on the move.

Plan D is laps of the gaydon complex, but not certain I'd fit all 250 cars in a line around the place... thats also for tomorrow.

It may, and the jcn is not that far away. It's more the number of cars under 'one' event, just have this vision and doubtless a nightmare tonight of jumping for joy as the 151st car streams by followed by PC### looking for me. Bit of a chuff having to be moving, but as the guy from Guinness said, has to be moving or consider all the manufacturer car parks/docks...

Sounds good, count me in! Would certainly be good if you could investigate the above option, and find that the security barrier will magically open :)

is there no way we can get on RAF Gaydon for this?

I think you're asking for trouble trying this on the public roads.  The B4100 is busy enough as it is.  What about the industrial area next to the RAF?  With jaguar etc in there?

As I don't have a skoda to drive in the attempt, I'd be happy to help with the counting or recording.

I've just done a quick measure on Google maps, and the loop track around the site is roughly 3.75 miles long, so should easily be big enough If we could get access that is

If you ask nicely & explained what youre trying to do, i would be surprised if Gaydon wouldnt be understanding.

Wouldnt SUK marketing be interested in getting involved so they could use the publicity, along with maybe a few members speaking to their Local dealers to come down with a marked up car to join & use the +ve publicity ?

I would be quite happy to Cheekily phone some of the local dealers in Kent & see if they want to get involved ;)

All good publicity for Gaydon innit!?

Lets see... You need to keep within two car lengths of the vehicle in front. If we work on 4 metres as an average length that's one car every 12 metres. For 250 cars that's a 3KM long procession. It would fit, but would need decent discipline from all the drivers.

I'm in

RAF Gaydon is now a proving ground apparently but was for British Leyland. I'm not sure if it's still used by Jaguar Land Rover.

This would be epic!!!

Don't you have to use official Guinness record stewards?

Yep, deffo in :D

RAF loop is plan B/C. If any costs involved, then will have to talk to other groups, might not work out this time, but next year, could be a founding requirement for the meet. Was 70/30 between gaydon and bruntingthorpe as it was...

Would be really nice to swing it this year given our 10th year etc. Would also require a lot of discipline on the RAF circuit for people to not hoof it and fool about. The more I've dug this afternoon, the road event is probably cutting it too close as you say the b4100 is busy already and the police operator expressed 'really' comments.

If less than 1000 participants  can use self declared stewards.

Got a price for a guinness 'official' 4500 for the day + expenses. Glad I was lying down in the garden when I read that.

Likewise, I won't be in a Skoda so should be good to count and record.

This sounds awesome but agree keeping the attempt off the public highway is the way to go.

If it can be pulled off count me in!  ;)

Brilliant count me in !

Other than throwing the cricket ball at primary school I dont hold any records !

1 Easy way to get the record, - Compulsary entry to the record breaking event.

If we do RAF Gaydon, we need to be allowed to take Coppice as fast as we can. ;)
