Joms coilover problems with pics

Featured Replies

Hi guys, had these problems since i've had the joms coilovers for the vrs and its really getting to me now to the point that i'm close to putting the 4x4 suspension back on!

I had them off a few months back and took some pictures, can anyone suggest what could be causing the knocking/clunking/twanging noise im getting with them??

When i fitted them i put new shorter mondeo drop links on, new top mounts and bearings, and also opened the shock up and applied lots of loctite to the "internal" shock nut.

But i am am still get noises, mainly over speed bumps and potholes or sometimes when turning sharply off my driveway.

The pictures show the coilovers when they were fairly new and the spring itself doesnt look to worn however now the coils on the spring have marks of rubbing (hitting each other i would think). Its starting to worry me that eventually they will wear too much and cause more problems.

Here's the pictures it looks like the top coil is hitting as it looks too close to the one underneath, im tempted to say that they are not the correct spring or they have been manufactured wrong..anyone else had this? or is it time to get the angle grinder out???

Im in contact with dpm performance about maybe sending them back under warranty etc any info to help would be great!

Cheers guys!

they are designed for a fabia vrs arent they? im sure the springs for a 1.2 mpi would be alot lighter than ones for a vrs tdi

Yeh i have checked the part numbers with dpm that are on the struts so must be ok. They are going to check the details again.

But i did think the springs may be wrong and not be able to take the weight!

appart from that and you using the car for jumping over hills / bridges .... im all out of ideas lol ........ some one smarter may be along soon

Spring fitted upside down?

Heres the joms before i put them into my car, changing them later for AP springs and shocks.

It looks like the springs on yours are fouling on the inside of the strut tower.

Is the top mount assembled and seated correctly?

Actually your topmounts look different to the ones i have fitted.

Mine are OEM Fabia vrs ones

Lol funny I am getting same thing. Almost full lock it sounds like a dull twang from the spring and over holes n humps I get a metalic tapping same as you and I preped same. Cant find anything loose.

Am also at a loss.

I am quite high too if you look at my good weather thread

I had a similar issue with Jom's on my octy,it turned out that whilst steering the spring would shift around.
I never did find a fix,instead i sold them.

I had a similar issue once when I used lowering springs on my old car.  In the end I cable tied some strong rubber inserts between the areas where the springs where contacting.  Quiet as a mouse after that but did not look too good.

I had this problem on a polo 6n2. Turned out there were no top mount bearings. This resulted in the weight of the car pushing down on the spring and forcing it to turn. When the spring wouldn't turn enough it would 'konk' bk into place.

Check your top mounts. Or if you have spare ones try them before you go mad.

P.s. i didnt do the polo's. i bought it because it was cheap because the owner hated the noise that much.

Try putting some rubber tubing on the coils - similar to what Rapture did.  Even some hosepipe would do initially.  Its a common thing with lowering springs on Civic's - giving 'spring chatter'.

I actually have some rubber tubing in the garage which i will be trying. My next course of action was to check the top mounts and maybe try the old oem ones that i have from taking off the old suspension. When i have time i will be taking the shock assembly apart and checking everything.

Just rather annoying :D i replaced the top mounts and bearings with patent parts from gsf car parts so maybe thats the issue?

My joms make some funky noises .. Every time I go over any slight bump / road they make a noise !! I have been to the garage 6 times convinced somthing is broken to be told no nothing wrong with it , I just think the suspension is cack !! So ill use my bike and let my mrs deal with the noise !

My Jom coilovers are fine.

How much do JOMs cost?

There is the problem.

Hence why I am not too bothered.

180 they are and I am happy nothing is loose even tho it sounds like it is.

Everything is new and oem and all torqued up right so I am fine with it.

My clutch chatter is more annoying
