Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Sony Experia Z

Featured Replies

My SGS4 has just arrived and I'm just in the middle of formatting a 64Gb Mi-SDXC card, doing the email account stuff and charging it, it seems to be taking quite a while to even add 1% to the battery, so I'll leave it until tomorrow to transfer all of the stuff.

I might try and see if I can beam all my contacts across to it from the S3.

It charges quiet quickly really, just goes a bit slower when you are drawing so much power doing all that 'I can't wait for it to be charged before I use it' stuff. We've all been there :D

How did you carry out this scientific comparison?

OMG, it has just downloaded a firmware update and I can't get rid of it asking me to install it.

I'm so scared that it's going to install 4.3 & wreck a brand new phone! Anyone know how to stop it asking me to update, when I don't trust the darn thing?

I just did that update and it works fine, if chews the battery, so leave it on mains.

I lost a couple of widgets from home screens, but they were still on the phone, just missing the icon links in their regular spots. I would do the (none-retrogradeable) update now before you get the phone too set up   - just in case :D

You're definitely not getting any errors or crashes, I simply cannot afford to do any upgrade and it start "coughing & spluttering" to a halt or freezing etc.

running at least as well as before. I'm on EE if that is any relevance (which I guess it might be as they have to check the release before letting it loose on their phones)

I have to say I have had 2 BIG updates now (750MB) and have never had the slightest problem with the phone (so far)

I've just had 4 of varying sizes including the last one of 753Mb! I've now had an email from my ISP because of the amount of data that I'm getting through & I've just increased my data allowance to 35Gb pcm. I'm already on 26Gb & that's got to last me 2 weeks!

My mate has just got new Nexus 5 and it's amazing.

It sells for £300 outright compared to about double that for an iPhone5 without contract. When my Vodafone contract is up in July I'm going to dump my iphone and get the Nexus with a GiffGaff sim for £10 a month !

I'm tempted to go the other way, I have a n s2, for almost 2 years it has been faultless and I love it, my wife has just got a Sony huge z thing which I am very jealous of, I have been looking at the s4 which seems a cool piece of kit but I think I may opt for the HTC 1. I doubt in the real world I would be disappointed with any of the above but I still like looking and comparing before I take the plunge, not quite decided yet so time will tell.

I wouldnt hang about, HTC are fighting off a sales block due to Nokia court ruling on a patent infringement!  So far the One is OK, but the One mini and Max is no longer able to be imported.

Had my S4 nearly a week now, moved up from my 2 year old faultless S2. Wow!

If my S2 was faultless then I would just be keeping it when my contract expires in January.

As it is, ever since I upgraded to Jelly Bean its performance has gone down.

Something (and I can't work out what) is draining the battery life like mad, possibly trying to look for a 3G or wi-Fi signal where there is none, so boosting the power to the antenna - it overheats quite a lot.

It also freezes regularly - well, I say freeze because it looks like nothing's happening but once I remove the battery and put it back in to unlock the "freeze", and see the battery level has gone down by 10 percentage points, it's more like "busy doing nothing" trying to run too many processes at the same time so the screen can;t keep up.

Well the panic is over and it downloaded it and installed it and to my complete surprise it's fine, it eats the battery a little quicker than what I would like, but it's fine.

I had an S2, could never fault it. I gave it to my father when I got my S4. I might swa back. My s4 has no service anywhere, eats batteries, the keyboard is hard to use and the software just doesnt work as well at all. its slow, poor quality sound and disconnects calls regularly. My S2 never has a problem. I think unless you are in a 4 area they just dont work because they are designed to work on 4g, obviously. also satnav uses data... which costs!!! glad its a company phone! But since i dont get service I cant use it anyway so downloaded a free satnav.

there are 2 of us with S4's bith of us wish we kept the S2's. I still might swap back. Anyone wanna buy an S4? lol

I found absolutely no difference with my battery :) But the phone is a teeny bit slicker in operation with screens sliding extra 'buttery' smooth. When I am at home and only making a couple of calls a day, a bit of web surfing and several emails I get 2 days out of the battery (with the screen pretty bright) and could also stretch it to 3 days if I wanted. I also leave the wifi on too :)

I'm lucky if i get a day out of a full charge on my S2

Maybe you play with yours more! ;)

hmmh - yes, Bejweled Blitz, Candy Crush, Jelly Splash and Minion Rush are a bit CPU/screen hungry
