Did I miss out on the 0%

Featured Replies

I am one. I ordered June & del expected Sept. Signed up for the £500 + 3 yrs servicing, but when the 0% started July the dealer said I would be better going for that, however on checking he said that the original finance deal couldn't be changed. I intend paying the balance off straight away so I will still get the £500 plus free servicing.

Can't you just cancel the order? You don't have to take the finance until you drive the car away. How much deposit did you give? It is very cheeky.

The deposit aside, as it is a factory order I am already waiting until Sept at the earliest so cancelling will no doubt put that back further. Also my trade in value is guaranteed, so could well lose what is a good deal. If I hadn't intended paying off more or less straight away I may well have gone down the cancel route, taken 0% & kept the cash in the bank.

You intend to pay off the PCP straight away? Have you checked the cost of that? They will probably charge you to do that (as they will make no money otherwise).  I doubt it will be much though.

Cant do fixed service as my mileage is too high (35k per year)

The free servicing is 30k miles or three years whichever comes first. My dealer recommended to me that I opt for the 10k service intervals rather than the variable servicing, that way I get three free services rather than only one (I'm doing 20k miles per year). Just a PITA going in every 6 months in my case.

Yes the free servicing is 3 services basically however you look at it. They wrongly set mine to variable and didn't want to give me the second service (at 38,000 miles). I argued that I was simply following the cars advice and serving when required. I was paying though as it was not free. Everyone getting the new free servicing offer should check their car is set to fixed intervals as that is the only setting the three years servicing should work on.

My dealer told me even though my car is set to variable, to ignore it, book it in at 10k for the first service at which time they would alter the car to fixed for the second and third service.

There is no cost.

You can cancel the deal within a set period (14 days IIRC) and you pay no charges.

Lots of people do this on ther cars with £1,000 deposit contibution.

Get the finance, get the extra £1,000 off your Rapid and then cancel the finance.

It's covered under certain rules that give you a short time to change your mind.

There are so many mixed messages around this...I ordered 19th May agreeing terms on the £500 + 3 years servicing, at that point I hadn't agreed to any finance deal, you only sign-up to a finance contract the day you pick the car up.  I collected the car 17th July when the 0% deal was on, the dealer re-calculated my finance and my payments came down £53 per month from what I agreed at order. At this point I signed the Finance contract and bound to the conditions of that contract. Remember the amount of interest on the PCP makes no difference to the dealer, the additional £53 per month it was going to cost me would have gone to VAG Finance not the dealer.

dont cancel the order for the car, I would suggest you cancel the finance, and ask him to re-do the paperwork now.

If they wont play ball, speak to Skoda Finance as all they have done so far is approved you for an amount, the actual finance has not been activated.

Thanks for your input, I will take it up with the dealer & then Skoda finance if I get no joy.

I had a similar thing last year, I was going from an existing PCP onto a new PCP with a new car, inbetween ordering and delivery of the new car the £500 deposit paid scheme was introduced, so on day of collection my dealer simply redone the finance as you are right all they have done is approved the finance agreement, its not finalised and activated until the car is collected, so its still subject to finalised figures, so the finance man at my dealer simply put in the new figures, the agreed figure for the car, the agreed PX on my old car, then took £500 off as Skoda deposit which is paid direct by Skoda so it doesnt matter to the dealer where that came from, then as the figures I had been quoted when I ordered the car had changed due to the £500 deposit plus the difference in settlement figure as a few payments had been made on my existing PCP from the date I had ordered the car my paymenst went down by £40 per month.  As I see it, the figure you were quoted when you ordered the car is one figure, but it is possible that will go down between then and when you collect the car, as newer offers etc can come into play and your dealer should charge you the price applicable on the day you collect the car, except in a case like now where you order a car on 0% but a newer offer came in at 6% for example then the 0% offer would obviously be honoured.

Sound complicated??

It's good to know there is an opportunity to change if a better offer comes in. It would be interesting to see how my finance would change if they do something like reintroduce the 0% VAT offer before I picked up my car.
