Yeti paddles

Featured Replies

Hi,

I did a search and no results showed up but I can't believe it hasn't been asked before. Do the DSG models have the paddles on the steering wheel? If not do you think the 170bhp version might?

The 140 doesn't. I'm not sure about the elusive 170 - it still doesn't appear in the Yeti prices section of Skoda's web site, even if it is in the configurator.

Mike (rockhopper) had his 140 upgraded with a vRS steering wheel to get the paddles - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/217595-my-candy-white-tonka-toy/ so it's certainly doable.

No paddles on mine.  I do have paddles on my other main car but rarely need to use them because the auto box is so good.  The Yeti is also good at choosing the right gear (6-speed DSG) despite having far less torque, and is better at sensing when engine braking is needed, changing down extremely well when braking downhill even when the speed is constant - impressive.  On the very rare occasions when I'd prefer to select a different gear it's easy enough to move the stick across to manual.

The Yeti is not produced with paddles. But it is easy to install a paddle steering wheel from Octavia/Superb.

Enabling with VCDS is necessary.

I wish it were, but also it isn't.

My biggest issues with my insurance company (Skoda/Alianz) were over the steering wheel. Shark Performance fitted it, but I needed an invoice from Skoda saying that it was fitted correctly.

I'm sure Ben does a job as well as, or even better than Skoda Dealers!!!!

Thanks all. It isn't a deal breaker for me. Just curious.

Holy thread resurrection batman....

I have paddles in both of our 2 existing cars. I will be naturally missing paddles on our DSG 170 Yeti, so the idea of retro fitting them very much appeals.

I'm hoping to pick on the experience of those guys that have done this...

- is there a particular vintage of steering wheel needed?

- do dealers have VCDS or do I need to go to a specialist to have this enabled?

- how much does it cost for fitting/enablement.

- are there any specialists in the South that could do this as Derbyshire is a long way to go for this mod?!

TIA,

Dave

Right where I normally am.

Just extremely busy at work and spending more time on Landyzone...... Occupational hazard of owning a Land Rover :D

Dealers might be able to fit the flappy paddle MFSW and program it, but Shark Performance fitted mine and coded it in about 10 seconds using VCDS. Skoda main Dealers aren't allowed to use VCDS......

I believe any Octavia or Superb MFSW will fit. I had a vRS one.

Great news! Did Shark provide the steering wheel or did you source it yourself?

How much did they charge you for fitting? I have contacted them but am awaiting a call back...

I got the steering wheel from skodateile.cz/Ales Prochazka
Ales is very helpful and can tell which steeing wheel will match your Yeti.

Thanks - will certainly keep that in mind!

Cheers for your help!

Shark provided the steering wheel. He had it in stock for a vRS, but the owner changed his mind, so it was brand new. I think I paid about £200 or maybe £250 fitted. I don't remember.

I collected the car yesterday. I have already decided that I cannot live without paddles so I have just ordered a steering wheel from Skodadop.

If necessary I'll drive to Shark to get it fitted but hopefully I'll be able to find someone more local to me to do this - but being new to the VAG scene I'll have to do a bit more digging before the wheel arrives!

Fit the wheel yourself and get someone local with VCDS to code the car for you.

There is a map of VCDS owners in my signature.

(I sometimes pass Winchester during the week so could do it..... BUT it would be short notice -1hr etc)

I have changed airbag steering wheels before, but as this is a brand new car I think I'd rather pay someone else to fit it rather than risk making a mess of my new car - though if you can point me in the direction of a "how to" article on changing the wheel I'll have a look...

Question for Rockhopper or 175GDY - is it a simple fit? I'm guessing there are extra connections for the paddle**** function (unless it's done on resistance and uses the horn connection?) so is all the wiring pre-installed or is some extra loom required?

If you already have the MFSW (without paddles), it should be plug and play.

Fab - yes I do have the MFSW so hopefully this will be a straightforward upgrade!

It is just plug & play. 30mins start to finish, with the longest bit getting the steering wheel in the right place on the splines :D

I'm having a big issue getting Shark interested in doing this mod. They first tried to tell me the wheel was £1000+ then when I said I'd sourced a wheel from skodadop for £280 they're now telling me I will need extra wiring. Which I have queried but it seems they're not interested in doing this.

So the next question - how do you remove the steering wheel? I guess the cowling has to come off but I can't see any obvious screws.....

Perfect! Thanks Gizmo

Hi chaps - any help with this? Had the wheel fitted & coded today - paddles work great!

But, radio & MFD controls all over the place. Like they're all wired up wrong.

They had a look to see if the switches could be swapped over from my old MFSW (non-paddleshift) but they can't as they don't have the paddleshift connectors on the board.

So I'm wondering if the Octavia III wheel I have bought is not compatible with the FL Yeti - maybe they have updated the pinout connections or something?

Just wondering if anyone who did this mod before ran into similar issues?

Cheers,

David

Right - in case anyone is interested... it seems if fitting paddles to the FL Yeti, the pinouts on the MF switches have been changed in comparison to the earlier Yeti's.

As such a different set of switches are needed - from the 2014 Superb model (Skodadop sell these).

So have ordered them - and will try to get this sorted again!

Hopefully there will be a good outcome to all of this!
