Problems/Faults

Featured Replies

Only very minor issue I've got with mine is a buzz in the dash - in the area of the climate controls, the vibration of the Diesel engine seems to cause it. Start / stop works fine, doesn't bother me at all. Agree that the "Eco" setting is nothing bar a gimmick on manual cars although no doubt in the DSG cars the delayed up shifts does help economy.

  • Would it be a bad idea to start a new topic and name it "Wish list" instead of reporting functions that would be nice to have as "faults"...? Not my business, I know it's not!!  But it's simply a f

  • May I suggest you either have this deactivated by someone with VCDS or adjust the right mirror first I'm mainly just pointing out that yours is not broken and its meant to do that.

  • the button on the door pillar for the alarm is not illuminated. it should be red as standard and amber when activated So don't know if it is even deactivating the  interior sensors may have to lock

The different settings - eco, normal, sport in the dsg make the car feel very different in terms of response. Dont think it does anything much in the manual though

I had a vibration from inside the dash, mentioned it in my Briskodian 007 thread. It was cured by Hortons on one visit, it was the pipe from the heater matrix to the driver footwell rattling against the steering column and vibrating right up through the steering wheel. The fix was some tape on the connection of the pipe to matrix to restrict the movement, simple but effective, no rattles since in over 3000 miles!

My 12v socket by the handbrake didn't work. Wasn't connected up at behind the socket (don't know whether came loose or was never connected in the first place)

I can say I am mostly happy with my Octy, however the fault list is starting to build at an alarming rate:

1. Blown headlight

2. Two screws found drivers footwell, One in passenger footwell, no idea where they are from

3. Rattle from front passenger door card.

4. Offside rear light cluster developed an inch gap from the rear quarter panel, doesn’t seem loose, but booked in anyway

5. Argh, twice now the engine has cut out from start, with the glow plug light going nuts; even when ignition left on for more than a minute second time.

I'm not sure if these are faults or features.

I had an 2.0D Elegance on demo for a long weekend and managed to put a few hundred miles on it.

Cruise control.  Pressing the clutch doesn't disengage cruise.  For example, spot a hazard upahead, dip the clutch and drop a gear to start to slow and the car surged forward as it re-engaged cruise.

Lane assist (I inadvertently turned this on and struggled to find where to turn it off again - I hated it!).  When cruising on the motorway and performing an overtake (if space allows, I like to gently change lanes rather than abruptly switch) the lane assist would fight against you to try and keep you in lane.  I'm about to order a vRS and have been told this option is standard while cruise isn't.  Cruise is much more useful to me.

Wow, if that's not a fault it should be. I'd be very surprised if its supposed to work that way.

Re: Cruise being an option, they probably made it one as they know many people will pay for it so it lowers the list price.

Re: Cruise.  True, but it is standard in the Elegance while Lane assist isn't.  On the vRS it's the other way around.

did you indicate as this turns the lane assist off while moving (or its supposed to!)

Re cruise and lane assist on the VRS i'd have much preferred cruise as standard.  It would have made the adaptive cruise cheaper for me too.

When pulling out, yes.  When returning after the overtake, no.

thats very interesting as I didnt think about the return. it would be lost on a bmw/audi driver! theyll never get to change lanes! ;)

Careful now - I'm just about to wave goodbye to my BMW320D in favour of the vRS ;-)  (can't wait!!)

The thing about stop-start that you soon learn is  .............that sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. My last 4 cars have had it fitted so you get used to its idiosyncrasies. On my Fiat I went to the trouble of obtaining a copy of the logic that it uses to determine if the engine should stop.  It was looking at about 25 different things and if one of them was not correct then the engine would remain running.  From what I recall it even went to the extent of not stopping the engine if the car was facing uphill.

may have to lock the wife in and see of it goes off :)

Since last week, my OIII Combi 1.4 Tsi is more at the dealer's place than that I drive it. The motormanagement control light is on since last tuesday. At wednesday, the dealer changed the lambdasonde, but this only helped for 10 minutes. Then we arranged a new appointment on last wednesday. Last saturday, the light suddenly went off again, but again on after 1.5 hours and a few stops.

Yesterday at the garage they checked every cable/control point related to the motor management. After that, they drove for about 14 miles without a problem. The head mechanic took the car home last night and brought it back to the garage this morning, so that he could check if the problem was still solved. And of course: the light is back on again...... the 'funny' part of it, is that the car drives normally, and that there's no change in behaviour with the light on or off.

I'm very curious if other's had similar 'problems'. Maybe not with the OIII but other Volkswagen related cars / 1.4tsi engines?

... my rattle seems to be passenger based and within the dash. The only way I can describe it is akin to empty CD cases vibrating against each other in the glove box, however this isn't the case as the glove box is empty as is every other cubby hole. Something is loose somewhere and is driving me nuts. Sure the dealer will sort this out somehow.

I had a buzzy rattle like this on my last Octavia.  Convinced it was coming from the passenger side and shuffled stuff about in the glovebox to no avail.  Then SWMBO drove in the car.  "Its coming from that corner there"  ponting at the drivers A pillar.

It was the ticket clip that was a fraction of a millimetre away from the windscreen and vibrating and buzzing against the windscreen.

Dealer fitted a new clip while I waited.  Fine for about 6 months then I caught it while cleaning the windscreen and it started again.

To cut a long story short I just put a small thick rubber band around it - problem solved.

Slot a piece of card behind and see if it cures the problem.

Thanks for the advice Fabswimmer, i'll keep it in mind, however my rattle seems to be passenger based and within the dash. Hi johnb07, I have exactly the same problem, I thought the vibration is coming from under the passenger seat or the passenger door bin area. Have you resolved this issues yet?

After rain my drivers door sill fills with water. I had been away for a week and opened door and was surprised by gush of water onto floor, just missing my feet. It has happened a few times since. Also parked on a slight uphill slope facing uphill and rear drivers side door released a splash of water. It hadnt been raining much really.

After the first instance I got straight in and moved the car to park out on the street off the drive and then went round the other doors but no more water came out, so I am wondering if it is coming in around the drivers door but flowed to the back door because of the slope.

I read on the Octy II forum a similar & the drain holes at bottom of the doors were full of sealant that the factory spray on. If it is the same problem then poking out the sealant from the drain holes seems to be the answer. Hope that helps.

Doors holding water until open then draining all over your shoes is a "feature" on my O2FL as well. It's the way the door aperture is designed to seal the drain holes against the frame vs position of the car. My driveway is  sloped, and with the middle drain hole sealed against the frame when door is closed and gravity forcing water to one side there is just nowhere for it to go. Can't be healthy for the metal, but it is what it is.

I had this problem too, took it back to the dealer and on collection noticed some metal filings on the carpets....but it did resolve the problem.

trouble is you won't be able to hear if the alarm goes off, so I hope the indicators or lights flash too or you'll never know!

As I said already, after I collected the car, I was driving along the road on my way home and all of the sudden the left headlight unit died on me.

Without me even touching the lights button.

It was on auto since they prepped the car for collection with the daylight on.

Hopefully it will get changed Wednesday.

They are bi-xenons with AFS.

Regarding the dash and the leather,

Just look and feel them to know why, has to be the worst types of plastics and materials I've ever seen in a car and not what I'd expect, if you look at the Passat Highline B6 leather it's like faux and hard cheap faux at that the sort of stuff seen on a £3 handbag in a charity shop, the dashboards have been rattling in everything since 2005 tbh, again because hard thin plastic.
