Sat nav

Featured Replies

Is there supposed to be a memory card in the slot with the maps on as it tells you to back up maps from memory card then put new map updates onto memory card.

I can't do a back up as there is no card in slot.

Also I went to download the latest version but it does not tell you what version it is.

The version on mine is Western V4 0050. Amundsen+ DAB

You don't have to have one inserted as most satnavs have a built-in memory.

Mines a Garmin Nuvi 1490TV.

Quite often you can plug them into a Windows PC and back up and install updates that way.

I didnt bother with a dedicated Satnav when I wanted one though; I bought a cheap Acer tablet and installed a free Satnav app. It works really well and is miles faster at updating route than my sons TomTom.

Lots of years ago ,there was no sat nav, only Sit Nag. I taught Sit nag to read a map, and anywhere I go in the country, she gets me safely and speedily from A -B . No updates - she works round them . A lot of couples should try it- it cements relationships .

I've got a sit nag -it gives me plenty of nagging but sweet FA help when it comes to directions. The sat-nav on the other hand, looks out for traffic announcements and re-routes me accordingly depending on if there's roadworks or accidents. Also it shuts up at the press of a button  :giggle:

I have the same model, not supplied with an SD card. If you want to update your maps, you can download for free, but the machine will only read the data off a Skoda SD card. How much? According to my dealer, £182 before VAT. I kid you not.

I like the good old trust worthy map you can get in all good old bookshops and Garages.... :giggle:
