Can bus gateway upgrade, can bus location.

Featured Replies

Hi

This has probably been asked before but I am struggling to find a thread.

I have Fabia MK2 2008 5J pre facelift.

I have just bought a Amundsen plus, everything is working great, however I have the issues of no communication to the unit to turn on/off with the ignition and also the battery drain.

I have decided to upgrade my can bus gateway from 1.6 to 2.0 and get it coded, however I can not find the can bus gateway I have looked all behind the steering wheel side and all behind the glove box but I can't find it anywhere.

Does anyone know where it will be located on the model?

And also failing this, plan B would be to get a can bus 1.6 to 2.0 adapter, but with this option would the unit be picked up when plugged in to vcds?

Any help will be highly appreciated as I'm running aroun in circles trying to find the gateway.

It's within the vehicle voltage control module (J519 in circuits) above the accelerator pedal, a sub-module, known as J533, I think, as it is on mk1s. On same circuit board.

Hi wino thanks for that I'll have a look tomorrow and then try and find the upgrade model :)

Could I ask if had to disconnect the harness adapters on the voltage control module (with the battery disconnected) to open it up to get the the canbus. Would it need reprogramming?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure what you expect the CANbus to look like, nor what you hope to do with it.  As far as I know it's just going to be chips on a big circuit board; the same circuit board as the rest of the module.

Yeah I've just realised its one whole big circuit so I'm unable to change just the gateway. I've looked for the facelift one but the harness connectors are different.

I think ill have to resort to a canbus converter adapter.

Thanks for your help, it's saved another day of searching around trying to find it haha

You're welcome.

You need a canbus converter anyway. Even newer central electric control units will still only be 1.6 because that's all the car ever needed. But the time canbus 2.0 was available on Fabia 2 they had gone to the BCM set up and that unit was no longer fitted.

Thanks Tech1e

Luckily I've managed to find a genuine Skoda can bus converter (5J0 035 751) from Skoda-dily.

I think I should have done my home work before I got it haha
