I was thinking that but took the belt of the other day tried to start her nd she wouldnt start at all

You could loosen off the aux belt and see if the alternator spins freely.

It looks good condition but soon as ive sorted this itll b having new belt full service the works

Could be any of the pulleys or tensioners on either the aux or cambelt.  Does the petrol have the same freewheel pulley on the alternator (I have a feeling that is diesel only).  Mine made a horrible growling noise before it sheered off!

that sounds more like the turbo isn't seated right and is blowing, or there is a crack in the mani or housing.  also the ticking sounds like a belt.

Its doing my nut in and costing alot to replace lil bits at a time to try fix it but at least they going to last a while with replacing almost everything

the squeek/noise is engine speed related, check the a/c pump pulley as the bearing went in mine and made a similar noise, i have a mk1 octavia tdi and could easily remove the tension from tensioner pulley to remove the aux belt, then check the a/c pump pulley. if not then it will probably be a bearing/pulley of some sort.

Thanks belt is on fine with good tension but it does it more wen engines under load as didnt do it in mot today wich it passed with flying colours and wouldnt do noise for tester to investigate lol

Ill do gaskets first as it kinda sounds like blown gasket but the squeek pulls me away from that idea think im just goin to have to go through everything

In not on about the belt. Take a look at the a/c pump pulley for signs that the bearing inside could be shot like noisy or graunchy when you turn it or it could be tight or really loose?. Mine was and squeeked very similarly to yours. Because its on the aux belt it is governed by engine speed so will sound worse the faster you go until it seizes or falls off lol

Youll be surprized at what sounds air can make threw a duff gasket.

So yesterday i did a 600 mile trip to take a mate to get a car (that was a write off) but when i was almost home and put my foot down and wen in higher revs the noise went and u had the perfect turbo boosting sound left and really did sound like belt

It's not mechanically sound, it's the sound of impending doom.

Ive done over 3000 miles in total with the noise and all works as good as it should
