Air intake - vRS

Featured Replies

Hey guys, was just wondering what intake and air systems they use as mines starting to look shabby and want to smarten up my engine bay, what do people recommend for filters and that?

Also any photos to show?

Many thanks

Will

I recommend you stick with the standard filter, it offers no restriction and filters out all the nasty abrasive dust which causes premature turbo impeller wear.

Cheers pal, maybe i will.

Pd160 intake and paper filter is good for 230bhp

I've had a pipercross induction kit on and a k&n 57i induction kit and I've gone back to standard air filter and pd160. Seems to rev more freely so am sticking with that although I might get a panel filter

Pd160 intake and k&n panel filter, standard paper filter is just as good but got the k&n as it has a lifetime guarantee.

The standard paper filter is much better and your turbo doesn't come with a lifetime guarantee so your justification for using the K&N makes absolutely no sense at all.

My K and N was good for 4 years and still looked new when

I sold it on. Zero issues with mine although when I took it off

and replaced it and the PD160 with the proper pipe and a new paper filter

in order to sell the car I immediately noticed an increase in smoke.

Not arguing with anyone just posting my experience.

Also have K and N panel filter on the S3, if I didn't trust the product

I'd not have fitted one. Will be going for Carbonio CAI at remap time but for now

the k and n will do.

PD125.7 and standard paper filter :)

Never had a problem in the 2 years it's been on there, cars on 90k.

Haven't some of the members running big power on here had some issues with the paper filter being sucked in on itself? I'm sure I've seen a couple of members. That's why the Jabba cone in the box seems to be quite popular!

Could always plastidip your plastics? I'm doing mine at some point.

Back to black for the win :)

Jabbasport cone in the box is the way to go

No mate, the pigeon noise comes from the exhaust and apparently the way it's mapped. The cone gives some chatter at low rpm which is cool!

If you're wanting a panel filter, which one should you buy?

Green Filter. (taken from PastyBoy's Thread)

OEM paper filter

sorry no pics of that :p

Of course there is K&N filters, which I've never seen anyone have any problems with and is what I have in my car. :D

i almost got my paper filter past the maf!!! but the car went into limp mode when it blocked the tube completely as it could hardly get any air im using pipercross the lower pic of the 2 above been in just under a year havent noticed any probs yet i pull it out when i do a service and clean and check it. the reason i use it is simple it wont suck up and if i get 2 years with it then it prob works out cheaper than OEM paper one i paid 40 quid for piper one and paper ones are about 12quid each and in two years i would use a minimum of four mileage dependant so its safer in my opinion

i purchased a Apexi cone filter and built a cone in a box using a 2mm aluminium plate and neoprene strip to make it air tight, my thinking being if my SCUBA dry suit uses neoprene seals which are water tight then they must be air tight as well :).

I honestly wouldnr run anything other than stock, its just not worth it . No performance increase (even at hybrid levels its small), no noise increase, and £ per service life is marginal.

big paper cone filter  :)
