Future European driving trips... Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Featured Replies

Not sure how many on this sub forum look at the Yeti project threads so thought Id do a seperate post here to share this years European drive. We leave on Monday, heading off for three weeks to Tuscany for the family holiday and doing a few stop overs on the way.

The Itinerary is more specifically looking like this:

  • Euroshuttle to Calais.
  • 8.5hr drive for a one night and day stop over in Chambery, France
  • 7.5hr drive for one night and day in San Gimignano, Italy (my favourite of the old medieval walled Tuscan towns)
  • A 1hr drive to meet friends and more family for sixteen nights in Figlini Valdarno, Tuscany
  • A 7hr drive for a stop over night and day in Annecy, France
  • A 5.5hr drive for a night in Reims, France
  • A 2.5hr drive to Calais for the Euroshuttle return
  • Home!

Pretty tame in terms of the 10 countries and 6,000 miles covered on last summer's trip but probably more relaxing and chilled. Whilst we are based in Tuscany Ive also planned day trips to Rome, Lucca, Sienna and possibly Florence and Arrezo so in all we'll cover between 2,800-3,000 miles in all likelyhood. Any other first hand recommendations around the Tuscany area would be greatly appreciated too.

I'll post some photos upon my return.

Also, having just returned from my first ever visit to the Algarve (by plane) Im pretty sure I'll take Beti there next summer and then on to take in some of the parts of Spain I havent yet done. I thought the Western Algarve was totally stunning (we stayed in Lagos) so I think she'll like it there! :giggle:  If anyone knows of any must see places from the centre of Spain to the West coast then I'd appreciate knowing about them.  :)

Just returned from a trip to Treviso ,Milan and Bologna and I cant believe how much amazed I still am by Italian countryside everytime I'm there. Never been in Tuscany yet but its on my plans. Wish you the best for your trip and lots of happy hours behind or not your steering wheel (not that anyone wouldnt be happy driving/"riding" such a diamond for a car  :giggle:

Btw I was left by the impression that the places I visited were anti-Yeti(?) as I only counted 5  and one was Czech so it doesn't count. Mind you, I didnt use autostrada much and rather preferred SS highways instead this time so this could have had a part in my lack of Yeti spotting although one would have thought the exact opposite considering Yeti's nature :)

Bom Dia Yeti-Man...........We have driven down to the Algarve [extended winter holidays] several times and what a wonderful journey it is. You pass through some fantastic countryside in France, Spain & Portugal. A "Must See" is a stopover in Salamanca in Spain. Check out the LINK for some pictures of this ancient city and you will see what I mean. It's a good stopover place as it is about 650 Km - about 6 Hrs driving to the Algarve from there on excellent roads.

Happy Holidays and a safe journey....................Tony

Driven to the Italian Lakes a couple of times now - very beautiful and possibly my second favourite part of Italy after the rolling hills and countryside of Tuscany. :)

We stayed in the Sister in Laws Apartment overlooking the Marina

Lovely area, the marina, nice for people watching, just sipping on a cold beer and watching it all happen around you. We stayed at Quinta De Sao Roque which I highly recommend - five minutes from the beach, five minutes to the Marina and the centre and 5 minutes away from the supermarket. We were so impressed, we are just booking the same apartment up for next year! :)

Mannyo regularly does Spanish runs. Look for some of his sun run threads or drop a PM
