Specific brand names for full service.

Featured Replies

Eurocarparts are having a pretty good sale on services parts, so I'm going to stock up. But, I'm just wondering if certain brand names are better than others.

At the moment they are selling 5 litres of Triple QX 5-40w VW505.01 for £24 with discount which isn't bad. (Shame I cant use VW505.00 as that stuff is only £12.50 for 5 litres!!!) . However, this brand isn't listed in the 'What engine oil' thread. It meets the VW requirements so it should be ok?

They also sell a variation of filter brands, are some better than others?

Currently, the three common varieties are:

Crosland

Hengst

Guttmann

Is anyone brand preferred for VW (PD) engines?

Thanks.

# not every1 can go to tps its for trade

I am using the tripleqx oil on my pd150 and the car hasnt blow up yet so it gets a thumbs up from me

Hengst are the OEM filter supplier I think.

I always thought MANN filters were pretty good.

In the past I've always used Fram filters on my cars. I have no idea what used in my car now, as I've never changed the oil myself. My Air filter is made by K&N which I changed myself. :D

i go to TPS regularly and save a fortune on service parts, i haven't had a problem, when i went there first i said it was for trade.

I bought a genuine VAG Oil filter from the dealer on my last service......when I looked closely at the filter it had 'MANN' written on it.

Should have saved myself a few pounds and just bought a MANN one.....as they seem to be the oem filter maker. I think the Air and pollen filters are MANN too.

I've never heard of the makes of filter Euro Car Parts sell and you list. I'd suggest you have a look at this site, VW Spares (AWS Spares):

http://www.vwspares.co.uk/fabiafilters.php

They stock Genuine VAG filters and these MANN filters we've mentioned. The Mann one looks cheaper than ECP. However, I've not used either site so don't know what either charge for P&P.
