Advice on (many) mods for my PD130 L&K Octavia Mk1?

Featured Replies

Hi

Im new to Skoda and to both Diesel and Turbo engines (total n00b with those!). I have had FIA spec Mantas in the past though, so that has gotta count for something? lol

Anyway, I want to mod my DULL L&K.

1) Obvious first strat Lowering and big rims :) How low, how big and what colour on a silver car? That is the question. I thought about 19s but am on a budget and need to think of the availability of tyres (and rubbage over speed bumps, of which my town has too many!) :(

2) Its an L&K NOT a VRS so I dont want to go down the dull VRS front bumper (Sorry guys) route! I want to mod the existing one or go totally different. On a budget, my idea was; Splitter (NOT the cupra one, the bigger one with the side lips), replace the plastic grills with black mesh and maybe colour code the black trim? By the way my car is silver.

3) Rear bumper mod. A few about, any suggestions?

Now down to the meat and bones!

4) Obviously air filter, exhaust, elephant mod (standard)

5) Dump valve

6) Remap

7) As stages 4-6 will take a LOT more cash and time that I dont have im looking at these 'plug-in chips'? Just as an experiment. Anything that makes the car use less fuel is a winner, and at less than £50 it seems a viable alternative for the mean time? What do you guys think?

So guys, any advice on any of the above is more than welcome! Im also thinking VRS brakes, but how hard is it to swap them? Spoiler, VRS or WRC? What rims look best? Ideas please peeps ;)

So far I have only modded the stereo (Obvious 1st mod)  with a quick release sub box with 2 16" (YES 16") subs running off a kicker amp, standard speakers off a 54w headunit (I have an amp and other speakers (7" Audiobahn for the front, Alpine D-Series for, well......where??? NOT in the crap 4x7 slot in the rear :( ) just not wired in yet). Sounds SICK with the subs, but, any suggestions for the other speakers?

Cheers guys, your help is MUCH appreciated :)

Chris

forget the plug in chips and dump valve. Stage 1 remap keeps your own turbo. EGR delete, decat. RARB.

£50 chip?

Good luck  :)

19" tyres cost a small fortune, so as you say, stick with 18s

As for dull vRS front bumper, let's see how chav different you can make it  :)

As Lee says dont need a dump valve. They will lose power on the diesel. A remap is the best bet for performance and can add 35 bhp safely and smoothly. Torque figures are impressive too.

18s are a good wheel size to go for in terms of looks. On a silver car maybe anthracite/ gun metal grey wheels could work.

The standard exhaust on the diesels isn't too restrictive and is good for 200bhp, as is the standard paper air filter.

They can be lowered 25-30mm easily enough without any issues.

You can DIY meshing the grilles. My brother did on his Octy tdi

your £50 'chip' will get you this

You definitely don't need an air filter or exhaust change on the diesel. The only (arguable) exhaust modification is to remove the rear box and put a straight through...Even that is down for some pretty intense internet arguing as to its effectiveness though.

TDIclub has lots of information on diesel tuning for the tdi130 PD.

Thanks for the advice guys. ;)

@brimma - sounds like a challenge to me ;) (The VRS bumper isnt dull, but, its what everyone goes for)

@leepatrick01 - The plug in chip was a bad idea, but, ive seen a proper remap with a dash mod that lets you reprogram the ECU (IE Performance/City/Econemy). Its NOT a plug-in chip and its very expensive (but a nice mod). From what ive seen, remapping a diesel is about the best mod you can do for the ££££s, would I then just be better going for a full on expensive remap like that? By the way, Whats an RARB?

Interesting to hear people say I dont need to do the air filter or exhaust, they are normally the first things on petrol engines. Interesting to hear that a dump valve would reduce performance too. Id like to hear why making her breathe better isnt an advantage?

Ive seen a chip that will map her to 180ish with over 400fp torque so thats the aim, but, I want to do everything else I can first so the map is correct for the setup.

Im trying on a set of S6 19s off my nephews A6 in a few days but I am thinking 18s. Anyone know how wide I can go without spacers?

MANY thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming and ill post some pics of my 'quick-release' sub box with 2x16" subs and amps ;)

WOW, £31 for 90x40cm!! I priced the full 4 grills up for £18 with the aluminum gear. That was for 28"x6" & 32"x6". Not sure what mesh size to go for though. This was 20mmx7mm, BUT, as a friend said, the middle ones are protecting the radiator and noone wants small stones poking holes in that! What size was yours? Have you had any problems with stones getting through?

I might be being overly paranoid. The usual skoda size is quite big and obviously works to their standard, but, their mesh is thicker than aluminium mesh so maybe there is a difference?

Really, I dont know. Ive always run quite tight mesh on previous motors but skodas have that look from the wide mesh.

What way do I go?

Ive got the same wider mesh on my Fabia. No problems at all
