Auto wipers "On" delay time

Featured Replies

With the automatic wipers, which I leave permanently in the 'on' position, I have found that there is a prolonged delay when getting in and starting up when the windscreen is wet, before the wipers actually waft across the screen.

Does anyone know if this delay is customisable so that it activates that first wipe sooner? It also seems to me that the single wipe that the rear wiper is meant to do when selecting reverse is a bit hit and miss, though that could simply be me mistaking the written description. These points actually refer to my Superb, and have arisen because I'm comparing it to the Yeti.

My understanding of the front wipers is that, in order to protect the wiper blades from damage in freezing conditions, if they are in Auto when you start the car they will not wipe until you move off (and perhaps exceed a minimum speed), the logic being that if you are driving along then the screen must be clear enough and hence likely not frozen solid.

15mph?

10-15mph

Ah - maybe I need to speed up a bit when driving off! Lol.

Many thanks. Maybe a case of RTFM! Though it does seem slower to start in the 'Berb.
