Why is it that the Seat, VW or the A1 Twinchargers did not sell as well as the Skoda has, that is hatch and estate.?

The 3 versions of the Ibiza, from 2009-13, Polo GTI & 2 Editions of the A1, with the same engine and gearbox and performance/economy, selling less in the UK all combined than the vRS did.

Must be a combination of their styling, pricing, engine and box, reputation,

or maybe just the lack of public knowledge of them.

This simply must be pricing. With the VAT free deal on the Fabia VRS it is a cracking car for £13-15k.

Also for me it is the looks, i personally don't think it odd to look at, why would i want a Polo GTI when it looks just the same as a mini Golf? There are tonnes of Golfs around. The VRS is exclusive around here, only seen less than a dozen on the road in the 2 years that i have had mine, and only one of them was Rallye green like mine.

I looked at both the Ibiza and the A1. The Ibiza at the time was not 5 door, it looks nice from the back, but i didn't like the front of it, much preferring the VRS. The A1 was like 6k more expensive for a much smaller 3dr only (at the time) and i have an Audi dealer half a mile from here, so there are loads of them about.

If i had to make the same choice now, the VRS would still be first choice.

I have received 2 Emails from WBAC, and i have never had similar before.

When i see a car advertised i will often try WBAC to see what the offer is, just to get an idea.

then you get the count down Emails to the end of offer time.

Tonight they came back with an Email for each to say they could increase their Offer on 2 different vRS they had quoted on.

'Due to increased demand on these vehicles'.

Just a new try on from them probably,

but actually the offer to buy, was more than i know i can buy the cars for, very unusual.

George - I wonder if this is related to the end of the zero VAT deal?

I.e if a brand new car is that much more expensive maybe this is reflected in the % of the new car price they can offer

George, WBAC have changed their strategy - last time I got a quote, that was it.  Quote email and an expiry of quote.

This time I got a quote email, a phone call, a follow up call, a quote is about to expire, quote expires tomorrow and then about three or four "are you still selling your car" emails.  Last week, they changed tack and it was "surprised at how long it takes to sell your car - WBAC are quicker".

I just wanted a quote to compare against dealer offers...the extra harrassment (despite it being a good offer) has put me off...

That is not what i am wondering about,

Its how they manage to get the heavier & bigger car to test on the EU Tests & show lower c02 g/km than the Smaller lighter cheaper 3 door one.

ie Focus 5 door Ecoboost 182ps  Titanium X or Zetec S v Fiesta ST Ecoboost 182ps

Thats something that VAG do as well when it suits them.

Gearing plays a big part, the Focus is probably taller geared. The ecoboost unit feels stronger than the 1.4TSi in the Fabia and I've only driven the standard 182PS (197PS on overboost). Must try the optional £599 Mountune mapped version 215PS.

The 1.6T in the 3 series (320i ED) has lower C02 than in the 1 Series, both ranges have full ecodynamics systems but the 3 is more aerodynamic and has taller gearing on the ED Model.

Lee i know you drove a vRS because you mentioned you felt it struggled with traction off the line,

and your wife bought a 105ps.

Maybe you have driven more twinchargers.

No doubt the Fiesta ST is good , a 3 door manual that is good.

You mention the 182ps Ford feeling stronger than the 180ps 7 speed automatic, and it might.

But lets look at them.

The Fiesta has a official given 60 kg less kerb weight than the vRS without having a spare wheel as standard.

So if we take the spare wheel out of the vRS & the Weights off the rear, or take the Estate without the Spare in,

we get a 5 door with an unladen weight of about 1200-1210 kg

& the Fiesta ST 3 door @ 1163 kg.

Now the vRS does the 7.3, actually will easily do 6.9 seconds and 139mph,  does better but easily that. Does it time after time, not needing good manual gear changes.

probably the ST betters Fords official figures.

But to think you can get a 5 door estate that is not far off the 3 door manuals pace for less money,

there does seem to be less of a run away winner,

unless you want a 3 door Hot Hatch Manual.

So we get nearer to a fair comparison when we look at the facts and figures, or just drive them and see.

Personally i can not drive manuals so never will feel the difference.

I must rely on someone telling me that can compare fairly with a bit of time driving both.

never mind lol..

LOL at me as well.

No, the Fabia TSi105 DSG is my run around, I also have a Passat 2.0TDi DSG for commuting. My wife actually had a 1.9TDi Mk1 then a 1.2HTP Mk2, she tried a Fabia vRS, A1, Golf, Polo, Merc A&C etc but eventually settled for a BMW 1 Series. (She wanted auto)

The only other twincharger I've driven is a manual 160 Scirocco.

I think one of the reasons the Fiesta feels so quick is the overboost feature, once you're in 2nd or above and the engines up to temp you get close to 200bhp and 290nm for up to 15 seconds, that's a lot for such a small car. I've asked my local dealer to give me a call when the have a mountune mapped car in. 215PS and 320NM is certainly going to be interesting.

Cheers
