I'm picking up a lovely red Mk1 vRS soon.

 

I want to get the paintwork up to a good standard, nice and shiny but not really sure where to start. I've t-cut and turtlewax a car once or twice so I get the general gist but is there any advice on which products are best?

 

I live by the sea, so something that offers a good level of protection is good, and to be honest, whatever the treatment is I'll probably only be able to find the time to do it about once per month so protection and longevity is key!

Hi mate,you'll need a clay bar kit with detailer,clay the paint after washing and drying the car!

This will remove surface contaminants.

Then polish the car with a good polish like autoglym super resin polish!

Then you can wax the car,liquid wax isn't as durable as a proper wax.

Try dodo juice wax for about £30 a tub...there are loads of other good wax's around...

If you're polishing, are you doing it by hand or machine? Autoglym SRP is not bad, but acts as much as a filler as a polish, so depends on what you want from the paint. If you are waxing once a month then as stated most waxes are suitable for that time frame as long as they are not liquid based (cheap ones will not be durable enough).

 

If you want something you can buy off a shelf the Autoglym HD wax will give a nice finish and last a decent amount of time - I live in Clacton too so also by the sea, I know your pain.

Using AG Super Resin followed by HD wax works well for me.

Try collinite. That's what I use. It's cheap enough ( less than £20 ) and lasts for ages.

Yea Collinite 476 is great.
