camera mounted behind the rear view mirror

Featured Replies

Does the camera mounted behind the rear view mirror is for Front Assist, Adaptive Cruise Assistant or  Lane Assist?

I mean if ordering only Front Assist will I get this camera?

NCAP says:

"At speeds above 30km/h, the degree of partial braking provided by Front Assistant depends on whether an optional mono-camera is fitted or not. With the camera, partial braking of 6ms-2 is applied; without it, the deceleration provided is 3.5ms-2."

Maybe there is somebody with these features and may check if the camera exists.

Have anybody here tried if the automatic braking really works?

I'm pretty sure the camera behind the mirror is for Lane Assist. If you have the adaptive headlights stuff I think the sensor for that is located in that area as well?

Its for the lane assist. For front assit and ACC there's a rader mounted in the lower front grille in the bumper.

From what I was told at the dealer and what NCAP state on the system (which I've quoted below):

The camera behind the mirror is also part of the Front Assist system along with the radar.... hence why the light assistant (which uses the camera) is also standard on Elegance. Lane assist is option only but the camera is present anyway.

"A long-range radar, positioned at the front of the car, can detect vehicles up to 80m ahead which the car is likely to hit unless action is taken. The information from the front radar is optionally combined with data from a windscreen-mounted camera to calculate the likelihood of an impact."

So ordering only Front Assist will get this camera? There is no dealer around me who can confirm or deny...

I have one of the first elegance with no extras and I have the camera behind the mirror

Hope this helps.

If there is a Radar in the grille will it affect Police speed guns?

No because speed guns now tend to use lasers rather than radar, because radar can give a accumulative speed (it may pick up two vehicles) rather than one.

I've not got front assist on my VRS, I do have the camera however.

I think I've got right answer.

The multifunction camera 1024x768 is mainly for Lane Assist. And only ordering this function you will get it.

But the camera works also with Inteligent Light Assistant.

I will be sure when pick up my new car only.
