Projector, what to buy...

Featured Replies

So my old projector has seen better days, think it just needs a new crystal chip thingy, but gunna buy a new one as well as try and fix the old.

Not really looked into it too much, the missus has found this on ebay

Peoples thoughts? Good / Bad?

Budget upto £400 if it means alot better projector can be had.

Any better out there?

I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole, it even looks like crap!!

Buy one from a reputable brand!

Like?

I think my current one is a Acer?

Does it have to be Full HD?

Not really no, mostly used for TV Shows / Films of 350mb / 800mb quality. The old one isn't HD as its something like 4 years old.

I would have a look at what companies like Optoma, Epson, BenQ etc have to offer.

You should get something HDReady 720p for that money.

I had a hitachi before they stopped making them, fantastic projector, got an Optoma now its a quality projector. I wouldn't buy anything not from a major brand like that ebay one as if you need a bulb i suspect you may be stuck and it turns into an expensive paper weight.

You could also try Sim2 UK....High quality Italian projectors.

That ebay one just made me laugh, it says it supports 3D but it means the old green/red kind not the modern digital 3D :D

btw all 3d is crap

Anyone got any links to ones actually worth buying?

Ideally the missus wants one with built in freeview and usb (so we dont have to mess around with laptops)

A few of those seem to tick most of the boxes! Oh well no rubbish TV in bed if she cant have a built in box wooop !

Thanks for your help :)

Look for a projector with an LED lamp, otherwise they have a limited lifespan and the lamps are expensive to replace.

For the money you are spending I'd consider buying a 40"ish Samsung panel and hanging it on the wall. Once it is set up there is less faff than a projector and IMHO you need a more expensive projector with full 1920*1080 pixels to make the image look right at 90" sized projection for it to be worthwhile going down the projector route.

I agree with twisty.

I have a projector atm and its great for films / tv shows and was sub £400. I think its 800x600 type affair too! Maybe simple things impress more too much :)

im using an optoma hd 65' had it several years now, should be in your range, whole heartedly recommended
