How many miles out of a Scout tank of (Diesel)

Featured Replies

I understand the scout fuel tank is a bit bigger than the standard tank. I've been filling up at 450 miles out of a full tank. It can go further because that is still in the red section of the gauge. I'm being a bit cautious.I understand when the light comes on there is still 9 litres in the tank is that correct? Will it go to 500?

What mileage do you get out of a diesel scout full tank?

PD or CR or petrol?

Mines a Diesel CR. But as far as I can see the CR and PD do the same mpg.

I have a 2013 Scout

with around 3k on the clock. I'm regularly getting way over 500 miles before the light comes on. Most of that is my daily commute which is about 20 miles motorway and 4 miles town traffic each way. Very pleased to be honest. I get around 44mpg average between fills (brim-to-brim) which I hope will only go up as the engine loosens up.

IIRC the PD engine does about 4mpg less (according to the published figures)

Thanks, yes it definitely gone up mines done 5500 miles and the last 2000 it averaged 47.5.

Morning all,

I am regularly in the 500's. Recently got 589 miles, admittedly only had 3 litres left in the tank!

Currently driving through Spain and France, of the 3 tanks, worst of 45.6 mpg, best of 49.8 mpg, all well into the 500 miles region.

Looks like I can leave it until 500 before filling up then! How many litres total is a Scout tank I wonder compared to a standard Octy?

I cannot remember if it was an Octavia brochure or the Handbook, but it stated the Scout 60 litres, other Octavias 55 litres. Not sure about 4x4.

In pretty sure the Scout has 55l, over the standard 50l.

Sorry- just had a nosey on the Internet and it does seem to be 60/55l.

So if you're averaging 47.5mpg you should be able to get over 62 miles on a 60l tank. I think. Feel free to correct my maths!

The 4x4 is the same as the scout. Both have a bigger saddle tank because of the prop shaft. There are also 2 fuel pumps, one for each side.

I have managed over 600 miles to a tank in mine on quite a few occasions and 660 miles on one occasion.

Currently running at an average of around 50 mpg over the last 12 months (20k miles)

I think you mean 620 miles! :-) , I agree with the maths though 60 litres tank, using 6 litres/100km or (47mpg) = 1000km or 620 miles from a tank!

Not sure I'll risk it much above 500m unless I get caught out its too much of a pain running out, and I hear its damaging to the fuel pump/s.

My fuel low light usually comes on at about 70 miles left and I have managed 30 miles on 0 range so I make it that the light comes on at approx 9 litres left give or take a litre.

My fuel light comes on as soon as the needle hits the red.

The wife is averaging 41mpg in our 2008 PD Scout with a short daily commute.

I get around 50 mpg indicated and can do more than 600 miles on a tank - the range indicator is very conservative - I've done at least 15 miles on zero. The CR is a good bit more economical - just on emissions alone it dropped from 173g/km to 155.

I can do a 560 mile round trip on mine if the 75% motorway is running smoothly.

Mines doing about 44mpg but I have just increased the tyre pressure by 0.2 bar all round. Handling and ride seem fine and the trip computer is showing better fuel consumption.

I get around 42 mpg from my iPhone app.  That is mostly town driving with a boot full of test gear for work.

Octavias all have 55litre tank. Thats what the handbook on my vrs says and ive filled mine with over 50l

Except the scout and 4x4 which we have determined has 60.

880km is the best I've done. But with a loaded up car and over hilly and windy roads.

But I'm a bit shy about finding the bottom of the tank. I suspect there is 100km worth once the light comes on.

Not a scoute but my pd170 has a personal best of 689 miles before the guage hit 0 miles.

that was purely motorway. Shark stage 1, no dpf, no egr, asda fuel 18's.

I'm guessing the scoutes transmission drops it a bit?

Not by much though, I've managed 660
