VRS Octavia Vs VRS FABIA

Featured Replies

Hello All,

My name is Alex and I would like your opinions on which is the better car out of the VRS Octavia or the VRS Fabia. I have driven both and found both to have their own pro's and con's. I'm indecisive!. I like the Octavia better for size and top speed but the fabia packs a punch too, brill for overtaking, annoying saxo's and MG-ZR's. Help me out, I want both but i'm not that rich!.

Thanks Alex.

Well to simplify it for you.

If you want a large boot to shift stuff around in, good speeds and resonable comfort over long distance driveing then I think you should edge towards the Octy,

However

If you want great fuel consumption, a nippiness round town then the Fabia is the one for you.

Just confuse things how about another option

octavia tdi pd 130 same engine as the fabia vrs....just as tuneable ...best of both worlds :D

go for the furby!!! im not biast at all! lol

Add cheaper insurance to the mix in favour of the Fab. The Octy is definitely the more out-and-out performance car, but the little Fab can have its moments to, due to the mid-range torque that the reviewers always mention. For instance, I was keeping up happily with a Boxster up to the legal limit as we both left a roundabout on the A49 today (hello to the owners of the black and yellow Fabia vRSes I saw today :wavey: ), but I'd never pretend to be able to beat a 'proper' performance car from 0-60...

Both have the potential for awesome performance with a bit of modding if you're that way inclined... ;)

When the Octy II vRS comes out, all bets will be off - it's likely to be a stormer if rumours are to be believed!!! :D

...and welcome to Briskoda Alex!

Welcome mate,

If you want a big rear overhang, 20mpg, people flagging you down everytime you leave the house, and a torqueless petrol engine, then buy the Octavia.

If you want something that goes better than it looks like it will, get the fabia. Cheap to insure, cheap to run, and £300 gets you a remap.

Fabia + remap = £12000 total. 190bhp/440nm torque. 50mpg........nuff said

Not that i'm biased in any way.

Whatever you decide, you will enjoy it i'm sure.

:feedtrol: ;)

I thought exactly the same after remembering some recent posts

Apparently, light hearted banter is ok. If you wish to try and annoy me with your childish slogan, feel free.

I have a cold beer, sunshine, and the seaside. I couldnt give a **** today. :finger:

If you can 'Afford' the Octavia then pay the extra, its bigger, its faster and is an exellent family car aswell{dont know if you have children}, if like Shifty your bitter and cant then the Fabia is a great second choice, smaller but still fun ;) .

Ive had 2 Octy vRS's a Fabia and a Superb , oh and a remapped Octy will give you over 220 bhp for the same money.

On a 65 mile run today from London to Worthing all on A roads i managed 40.6 mpg............surprised myself :D

Lighten up guys

I'm at the top of the list for the new Octy Vrs. (diesel of course) Only if I can "afford" it of course. I just thought I'd have some fun given that I got all defensive the other day.

Both very good cars, both for different reasons. I like em both, but chose the Fabia to keep me going til the new octy vrs comes out. I just thought it might retain more of it's value at trade in time. And thats not a dig at the Octy's depreciation, it's just that the Fabia isnt being replaced just yet. Just economic sense.

Relax, were all friends in here right?

I'll second that...

If I got another Skoda it probably wouldnt be the Fabia.... its a good car, no doubt about it. Well built, good looking (needs lowering though), economical, and quite frankly, fast enough for most people.

Nevertheless, its a diesel, so the power delivery is impressive at first, but if you like the feel and sound of a petrol unit (I do) roaring away at high revs. The diesel seems to encourage you to drive quickly all of the time, and when you want more it leaves you wanting.

Now if the Fabia accelerated as viciously between 2000 and say 6500 rpm as fast as it does between 2000-4000 then it would be genuinely quick. A chipped Octavia VRS has the shove of a Fabia vRS but can rev to 6500+ and has fairly tall gearing (probably best for traction given the power), and good aerodynamics, so I can imagine its very fast indeed. I know this because my housemate has a chipped Ibiza FR 1.8T chipped by APR to 215 bhp, and thats a very fast hot hatch. All it probably needs is better brake pads, uprated suspension and a sump guard, and it'll be as fast as most people would reasonably want.

The 1.8T can be IHI'd as well (big turbo conversion), and 400 bhp is not unheard of.

Even as standard the 180 bhp is no slouch, but they feel noticably quicker when remapped.

So the Fabia is a good car, which has reasonably good tuning potential, and has excellent overall potential, but at a cost. The Octavia has good tuning potential and a lot of the work is already done (big brakes, low as standard, bigger wheels etc). Also looks a bit "badder" to me. The Octy can have serious tuning potential if the wallet is big enough.

Also, with careful driving the 1.8T can achieve 40 MPG. The economy can be almost as good as the Fabia ;)

And this is from an ex Fabia vRS owner ;)

Getting 40mpg out of an Octy vRS :rofl: The best I have managed is around 35-36mpg over long runs - and that was driving like an elderly vicar ;)

There is something about the 1.8 20v Turbo that just demands to be driven hard  :D (usually I get around 30 mpg - not bad for a big heavy car that can really embarass those annoying gimps in BMWs :D:thumbup: )

Why don't you buy a nice German car?
