First drive of a Citigo

Featured Replies

Hi All.  I was looking at a Citigo and the various pre reg or demo models on Skoda.co.uk or Autotrader where the saving is quite allot.

I have now driven a SE 3 door and a 60bhp Elegance 5 door.  As a second car and a family of 4, 5 door suits me best although I think the 3 door looks better.

I had both cars out for an hour, a mixture of back roads, smooth and uneven, motorways, city centres, and the car was great in all areas.  I am 6ft 4" so wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to get uncomfortable after a short distance, dealer happy for me to take the car for longer which was good.   Ok, engine takes a little coaxing upto speed, but once there runs along very well for something with 60bhp.  Sounds great when you open the taps as well, air con off and window open fun.  Thought the gearbox was sweet, very nice especially when warm, steering very nice and precise.  Brakes just the right amount of bite and pedal feel.  Great at parking, can't believe how short it is with a useable boot and 4 seat reasonally happily in it!

It was a great experience and I cannot find fault.  For the type of car it is and the money it costs it really is very very good.

I liked the elegance allot, the car features and standard equipment is excellent.  I personally wouldn't use the heated seats, never used them on my Fabia in 12 years.  Wife has!

So what this boils down to is which model.  I have decided to go new which means that I can have what I want. I will be ordering a Sport 5 door in white with a spare wheel.  I'd like a variable boot floor but you can't seem to get this on the sport for some strange reason.  I have found out that the parts will cost me £151.60 incl. VAT.  Ok more than the £60 if you spec this on another Citigo model but thats life.  It is only the difference is what I keep telling myself.  I shall be ordering the car this weekend, been quoted 19 weeks for delivery.  That doesn't really bother me as I want to sell the Fabia first and this gives me sometime to sort myself out.

I like the elegance just that SWMBO preferred the Sport but would have been a very happy chappy with either.

To answer fabandy other point he raised on another post regarding the Groove Up.  The sunset orange Groove did have a sunset orange/anthracite dashboard. It looked nice but I wonder if the bright colour on the dash might get annoying after a time.  I am into long term ownership with this car so want to make sure that I can live it for a while before moving onto something else Skoda! :giggle:

Great choice mate - sure you will love it. The sport does look very good - especially inside.

Thanks for the info on the dash - I do quite like the body-coloured dash on the up!

Don't forget the extended warranty if you want it - seems cheap at point of purchase new.

Best wishes, Andy.

Thanks Andy.  Serioulsy I can't wait.  It really is a very enjoyable little car, I was having as much fun in the Citigo as I have had playing with much more powerful cars on test drives.  Very good point mentioned on the extended warranty, thankyou.  I haven't taken too much notice of this if I am honest.  I will now before I place my order on the weekend.  Is it something that is a popular addition when people order the car do you know?

We have a CiyiGo Elegance 75 n Yellow with the summer pack.

It's a dream to drive when I can get my hands on it  . I'm forced to drive the FL Vrs, also in Yellow......Boring    :(

RGKTSi,I ordered the parts for the raised boot floor last week and the price was £100.31p from my local dealer.

I used the part numbers from the post further down the citigo forum, titled :

"Citigo LPG part 3,raising the boot floor."

Thanks bilun777, I shall look into that.  It was the price the sales person gave me at the local dealer, perhaps they want to charge me £50 to fit :smirk:

I think I'll be able to cope fitting it.  Thanks for the heads up on the price, I shall read that post again.

RGKTSi - the extended warranty has only been available for a little while but many people have mentioned it. At point of sale this is an extension of the proper factory warranty, rather than an insurance-based scheme provided by the dealer. My own dealer was advertising such a warranty for about £350 a year, so it sounds like a very good deal if you are keeping the car 5 years. Another post mentioned that Skoda UK had said that it included the usual Skoda Assistance - if Skoda UK have it right, it is even more or a bargain (no guarantee they have though.) Great review of your test drive, by the way. Buying new, are you going for cruise control?

I have purchased the 5 year warranty for my car. Worked out £6 a month over 42 months. As had already been mentioned it its a full manufacturer warranty with full rac (skoda) brake down cover.

from the citigo brouchure, I think we need a definitive answer from customer services

If your ŠKODA’s in trouble, rely on ŠKODA Assistance

Completely free of charge, every new ŠKODA is covered by

ŠKODA Assistance, provided by the RAC through a

dedicated team. This cover lasts for 3 years, with no

mileage limit. So if you ever break down, you can use the

freephone number to call out someone who really knows

about ŠKODA cars to help. This service is even available in

Europe, so you don’t need additional breakdown cover

when you’re driving on the continent.

Hi customer services

A quick question on the extended warranty,

We purchased the Skoda extended warranty when we ordered our Citigo Elegance Greentech 75PS

This warranty is direct with Skoda as it was part of the original order, does it include Skoda Assist on the extended part of the warranty (years 4 and 5) or is it just warranty on the mechanical items in years 4 and 5?

Thanks in advance

Auric Goldfinger - thank you for your correction but you might notice that I actually recommended the factory extended warranty purchased at point of sale because it is much CHEAPER than a Skoda dealer supplied warranty purchased at a later date - about £350 per year and not including Assistance, as advertised at Carrs Skoda, Bridgwater.

Hi fabandy, will defo be going for the extended warranty now, for that money no reason not to.  Regarding your post on the cruise, parking sensors and computer, I wasn't going to bother although I love cruise control on the Octavia.  The reasoning, I probably won't use the Citigo so much on long journeys, the Octavia will be more comfortable for a family of 4 on longer runs, thats not to say that I won't for example if there is a Citigo meet up in the Midlands for example.

I know it's not allot of money and if it was fitted I would use it however psychologically I wanted to keep the price below £11K.  I am geting a small discount which keeps the price down to below this figure however if it goes above this I'd be thinking that maybe a Fabia 1.2TSi would be the way to go and I don't want to do that. :giggle:

Mmmmm Intresting, I too ordered the Extra Warranty from the Factory, classes as a Factory Fit Option and it was only £260 for 2 years.

It makes the 3 year Factory Warranty into 5 years

Why pay £350 a year when 2 years is only £260

Copied from the Brochure

 Extended warranty 5 years / 100,000 miles £260.00

Perhaps I've miss understood you sorry, you have purchased the £260 warranty for 2 years not the dealer £350 one, Yes??

Very good choice sir!

Auric Goldfinger - 'perhaps I've misunderstood you' - absolutely no problem mate - I probably wasn't clear.

Buying the extra 2 years for £260 is great value but you need to do it when you buy the car new. If you don't, the going rate for extending the warranty seems to be about £360 a year from a Skoda dealer.

Glad you ordered it and hope you are enjoying your car!

Hi customer services

got call from customer services today

they confirmed over the phone that years 4 and 5 of the extended warranty if purchased as part of order INCLUDES skoda assist :)

so £260 is skoda warranty AND skoda assist

BARGAIN compared to dealer extended warranty,

can see in some respects can see why not pushed by some dealers if they can make more margin on their insurance backed warranties

Edited by bluecar1

Amazing bargain - thanks for getting confirmation bluecar1. Good point about dealers not pushing it.

I'm surprised that Skoda don't make it clear in all their T&Cs small print, that the Assist is also included.

Incidentally, you should receive a letter confirming your warranty extension (direct from Skoda) about a month after collection date. If you don't, ask your dealer to check Skoda's computer system to check that your warranty has been applied...Mine had "disappeared" and took several weeks to sort out...with the help of a very good Customer Services person at Skoda.

He he.... I did tell you it was included(post number 8)....I'll get my coat now........

But before I leave, the extended warrenty stays with the car if you sell....possibly making it easier to sell/px

only thing was in post 8 you did not explain how you knew it was, customer services, dealer, paperwork?

but never hurts to get another opinion

  • 2 years later...

So, what's the final verdict after two and a half years?  Is Skoda Assist included with the Skoda Extended warranty or is it not?

Who has the proof in writing or on any documentation from Skoda UK?

  • 2 weeks later...

not sure now

we no longer have the citigo, wife swapped it for a i10 last march, but placed an order for a new citigo (part ex'ing the i10) last week, so will be back in skoda land in 12-16 weeks as was factory order

it would be worth getting a current update from customer services, as from what I have heard it seems to have changed since skoda assist swapped from the RAC to the AA

May I ask about the decision to swap back to the Citigo from the i10.  I still have the old shape i10 and have, until now, resisted chopping it in for something else.  It has to be said I was looking , with some interest, at the new shape i10 and the Kia Picanto as well as the Citigo and VW Up possibilities.

There were a number of things that didn't find favour with the Citigo/Up but I've been monitoring the site here for ages.

Edited by oldstan

swmbo decided she wanted her PID back and Hyundai don't do red on the i10

she has never really taken to the blue she bought and a couple other things that niggled her

I suppose it beats the old "ash trays are full" excuse for a new car

no real show stoppers and big reasons, just swmbo exercising her right to change her mind
