It's so sad that Suzuki have such a big/little hit on it's hands with the Jimny and now more or less have to withdraw it from sale in the EU. It beggars belief that they didn't figure its high emissio

  • 6'6" and my wife is 5'11", we pulled on a Jimny like a coat.

Just a perfect Nimble City Car, many will be bought exactly for that use, there is no other in the same footprint & with the good visibility because of the high seating position and all round glass and slim pillars, then the bumpers are good but fit a rear tow ball and that gives more protection.

Only downside might be emissions.

Thousands a year were not bought in the UK in the past few years.

I like the fact that at least in one dimension (length) it's actually shrunk. I only wish the same could be said for virtually every other car made today (a Kei M4 might be a bit odd though :D)

Has it shrunk in length or is that actually the length including the rear spare wheel on it, a narrower spare fitted closer to the door.

The roof height is from 195/80 R 15 tyres and the old one was on 205/70 R 15 and there were roof bars fitted, not an option.

The article just states it's shorter in order to qualify for the Kei rating, so I guess it must be shorter in the metal and so is not including removable doodads. We are only talking 30mm, but its a start :)

There were Kei versions of the last models and of this one.

No wheel arch spats and no spare rear wheel.

Metal work of the last one never changed over 19 years only the plastics.

So if they are comparing like for like, then it's 30mm shorter

Just saying, Autocar just keeps going from the Media packs.

More important, Front Wheel Drive in normal use, then rear wheel drive as well when the driver selects.

Not good IMO.

Email in from Suzuki today saying, We are getting near....

PS,

Those in the UK will buy a right hand drive one and the accelerator pedal will not be right up against the transmission tunnel as the Autocar Journalists left hand drive media car had.

I am not intending to buy one, but I will definitely go and have a look at one when they land. Got to say my Vitara has held up very well for depreciation, so perhaps the new Jimny will do too

I am going to the launch in the UK. So looking forward to that.

Love these people that do launches, like asking them questions and then asking 'do you want to phone a friend that might know the answers not in the media pack?'

Funnily enough I had a moment like that today when I asked my Dentist, "why do teeth have/need a nerve, it just seem a pain the ....er gums to me". He wasn't exactly sure, but said he thought it was probably something to do with blood supply and tooth formation. I'll google it when I have had my supper, unless there is a handy media guide to teeth?   :D

^^^ There they are again.  'Most of the time it is in rear wheel drive'.   Well that was how it was, not now supposedly and as far as i can find out.

The new one is Front Wheel Drive in H2.

If it is a Pusher in when in 2 wheel drive then great.

Just as long as you know because forewarned if forearmed.   If you want or need one then maybe as well dying in one of those as a 5 star vehicle or 4 star car derived van wipes you out.

Someone should tell Ncap that many 'disable' the air bags anyway if using as an Offroader.

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere

Jimny as was, and with 205/70 R 15 tyres.

And cars with better road behaviour if it is Farm and Forrest Tracks and winter or just country roads that you are driving.

As many do and the Testers seem to keep ignoring.

Suzuki Swift 'Allgrip' also available, and pretty much a Part Time AWD bargain.

@ 2 Minutes, 'offroading', in a automatic with shifters on the steering wheel.

We need 'roadtest reviews' on an automatic.

vrskeith,

do you see where some magazine and reviewers have it as Rear Wheel Drive 2 H.

& others like those that first had the Suzuki Press Pack had it as Front Wheel Drive 2 H.  Where they just confusing Swift, Vitara & Ignis with New Jimny's.

I get the feeling that not many 'reviewers' have driven a Jimny from the past 5 years on or offroad.

Maybe they should try the one just gone back to back with the New one.   Some say light steering on fast roads, heavy in towns,  adjust the tyre pressures then, or at least check them.

1998 was a great year, and 2004 before Suzuki messed about with the Transfer box.

But for 19 years it was an absolute bargain.  Simple to work on as well.

Worth buying a nearly new or slightly used one of the old ones, an Automatic one if you can find one.

Same space and same ability, and just fit suitable wheels / tyres.  No snagging faults, or long waiting lists. Rev the nuts off it... KISS.
