Not entirely, because the 2wd Yeti still has the differentiator of increased ground clearance and approach angle. This is potentially interesting to people that have silly drives like mine, but don't feel like they can justify 4wd.

Quite like it with it's somewhat conservative VW styling. Better looking than a Golf Plus (just).

Extra inches (or cm's) make it a contender for the slightly bigger than a Yeti market but I suspect that

OTR price will be much more than 'slightly bigger' (£28+ decently spec'd) and residuals will be also adversely affected.

They only do a mid range version in the Golf Plus so to get a full spec you have to add £4-5k which

you definitely won't get back. Funny marketing??

The boot space from an outside view of the cars proportions look not that good without folding down seats but could be wrong.

What with extra running cost including Insurance hike may make do with the difficult to beat Yeti

package.

Looked at a Golf Plus and Salesperson almost tried to talk us out of it...niche vehicle, not much demand,

poor residuals, why would you want one logic....etc etc. Very honest!!

Also looked at a C Max and the latest Kuga which are not superficially bad looking but again in the £27+ and £31+ range with a decent spec.

I like it. Too big and expensive for me though. They really need to bring out a Polo Plus given the increasing market for supermini based mpvs; B-Max, Venga, Meriva, IX20, C3 Picasso etc etc....

I have to ask if you have a silly drive where do you park that Octy? :D

On the drive. It's got....

VAG ****ed up big time by not bringing out a Polo Kombi IMO. Look at how many Fabia I and II estates you see. There was a Polo Cross, which had no more space inside, just had plastic trim lower down, like a Fabia Scout but nobody bought them.

I remember at the time of the latest Polo launch there was talk of a Polo Plus but it didn't materialise. Similarly, before the UP! was launched we saw several small UP! based MPV concepts. Where are they VW? The market is huge for these things!

Why is my post now marked 'Hot'? Who marks it so and what qualifies a 'Hot' topic?

Should I be chuffed to have started this?

I saw these at the Frankfurt motorshow yesterday...  yawn...  no make that tripple yawn.  Utterly pointless.  A slightly longer wheelbase, a slightly higher seat, a different dash... erm WHY?! The only way the equally pointless Golf Plus made sense was as a CrossGolf.  Then it looked great and indeed could be seen as a sort of Yeti competitor as it had (slightly) higher ground clearance too.

Nah, don't agree. I looked seriously at a Golf Plus (but didn't pursue it because the UK choice of engines was poor, oh and I wasn't sure I could live with the dash layout - just clumsy and awkward.)

But whereas getting into a Golf I always have to hunch up and everything feels pretty close, in the Plus there was suddenly enough leg and head room and everything felt distinctly more comfortable. Which is one of the things I like about the Yeti - the excellent head room. Must be getting old!

And there you got the target market in a nutshell!   :giggle:   40% of MPVs in the UK are bought by retired OAPs...  And in the case of the Yeti that percentage is about...  oh I don't want to take a guess.   :giggle:
