Noisy wipers

Featured Replies

Noticed my wipers are now noisy, even with a lot of water on the screen, o/s wiper is making a scraping noise, & wiper blade makes a noise as it changes direction!!

This will have to be sorted, I am a bus driver, & I can't stand noisy wipers!!! I don't care if I have to have to have every wiper part changed, I want silent wipers!!!

Anyone else had this?

Not yet... BUt is it the rubber against the glass?

I feel exactly as you do, and with my previous Octavia I tested different sorts of wipers but eventually came back

to Skoda original. (One parentheses. I get the feeling VW wipers are more silent but never understood why. Would expect

about same quality of rubber in them both.)

Ah yes, the delightful sound of noisy wiper blades. Sound like a thousand screaming children who are running there nails down a black board at the same time. Actually makes my teeth itch :-s

Mine were fine until I put some advanced rain x stuff on the screen, they judder now. Oh poo. I will get round to cleaning screen to get it off soon!!

I know they suggest you don't use those waterless spray car cleaners on the windscreen, however I do and even with a new set of Bosch blades on my Octy 2 never a squeak heard. Whenever I have used normal window cleaner the blades make a terrible noise.

Try cleaning the windscreen with vinegar on a clean cloth first then rub it with a newspaper.

I am an "oldie" & your suggestion has brought back memories. I worked for a butcher 50+ years ago & one of my jobs was to clean the shop windows. We did it with water & vinegar & polished with newspaper. Those windows sparkled. Might try it on the windscreen. Thanks for the memory!!

I noticed in the past couple of days that the right wiper sometimes made a clicking noise when it changed direction in the vertical position too.

Mine does this, also right side rubber makes scratching noise!!

Tried the vinegar & newspaper thing today, will report back next time I need to use wipers!!

Don't want to use washers, as the whole car gets sprayed, & it's clean at the moment!!

Brilliant advice! I use a sray bottle mixed 50/50 with white vinegar and de ionised water. Had squeaky wipers when my motor was new. Cleaned the screen with vinegar mixture and a really rough scrim cloth and then polished with a microfibre cloth..........no more squeaky wipers!

Didn't work!!!

Have you tried cleaning the wiper blades themselves with the vinegar solution or a newspaper?

Part of the problem is the o/s wiper is hitting the pillar!!

Dealership just had quick look, & have booked it in for the 9th Oct Wipers need re setting, they believe the factory failed to install them correctly!!

O/S wiper arm adjusted, & no longer hitting the pillar!!

Unfortunately, rubber still making a noise, unless a lot of water is on the screen!!!

I find that my right wiper will only hit the pillar when I am going over 85 mph on the motorway but then only every 3 or 4 wipes! May have something to do with the extra wind pressure due to the speed. Normal speeds are absolutely fine. Anyway, will get it checked out and adjusted when the car goes in next week.

Hang on, what's a newspaper? Is it like an iPad?

Lol! I dont actually know anyone who even buys "news"papers anymore.....

Has to be some type of lubricant between rubber wiper and glass windscreen.

A good clean of both surfaces is a start, followed by some sort of water resistant glass repellent, should do the trick.

Good luck...

I'll give it a try thanks!

I'd avoid the glass water repellant stuff as that's what started my squeaking across screen (right side wiper). They were fine before I cleaned the screen and applicated the damn stuff!!!!

Did you use RainX? I was thinking of putting some on.  Have used it one all my previous cars without problem!

RainX is great for the side windows but I wouldn't put it on the windscreen..... unless you haven't got windscreen wipers....

No I used Gtechniq ClearVision. It comes highly recommended. I'm caught between reapplying it again to build up a layer of it and hope that's why it is not working or removing it and hope I get non squeaky wipers back! Oh what to do!!

Wiper arms have been changed, this has resolved the issue, a new windscreen has been ordered to replace scratched one!

All under warranty!!
